Just wondering where the support for Mystic Shield stacking comes from?
I get that the effects of different auras/abilities could stack (eg, cast Mystic Shield on Sisters of Slaughter would stack with their Dance of Death ability for a +3 save), but if I cast MS on a unit that already has MS they don't get a double strength MS.
I obviously can't find an explicit rule that supports this, but I've seen several warscrolls that talk about the aura of an ability or spell, and I've taken this to mean that units under the effect of these auras in a binary fashion. Could be wrong about this, obviously.
Besides, not stacking the same aura/effect is less OP, which I find appealing.

Page 79 of the age of sigmar book (starter box) in a paragraph talking about bonuses from war scrolls, says modifiers stack.
You could argue that it's only in reference to the bonuses on the war scrolls, but it's easier to just say No, Don't Do It.

There is no rule to say they don't stack.
We Houseruled it that you cannot stack two mystic shields on one unit, as we immediately had players making lists to get huge units with 1+ and 2+ saves.

Wouldn't your opponent simply ignore the giant unit for a turn or two and take out the Wizards? No Wizards and stacking saves becomes a moot point. Or you could just focus your mortal wound causing attacks on the big blob. Mortal wounds don't care what your save is. There are quite a few War Machines or other units that get bonuses to hit or wound when attacking large units... or cause more damage to larger units.
I could see a 1+ save ranged unit being a challenge, but for melee... well, it's not like more than the first rank or so usually gets to actually fights. You need to get within 1" for most models to be able to attack. Within 2" for a limited number of models with things like spears.

In a lot of games those units are are on top of you fast and you don't have those 1-2 rounds. And that assumes you have something to take out the enemy wizards. And the units this works with are the ones that have high attacks, reach from the second rank, and decent armor. It works very well with the elite units.
It's just far easier to make a house rule. Out of the players that have been in the store for leagues and tournaments, every single one thought it was a good idea. So that's what we go with.

I had a chance to check out the wording p79 in the starter book (p235 in the BRB), and it clearly states that modifications from rules are cumulative.
What still isn't clear to me is whether a rule (effect, aura, ability, whatever) can apply multiple times on a unit. If there are 2 rules A and B that modify stat X, a unit can be subject to rules A & B simultaneously, and X is modified by both.
But saying that the unit is subject to rule A, and by another copy of rule A, is not making so much sense to me.

The rules clearly allow stacking of buffs. The starter box set Chaos army encourages it (attacks with Blood Reavers).
I have no problem with my opponent attempting to multi buff units with shield. After all, its at a cost (and risk) to them. Most wizards only get one spell to cast and therefore they would be "wasting" other opportunities.
ofc, since the old armies have had their rules shoe horned in, there may be a few ridiculous situations, but for the most part Im sure it wouldn't be a problem, and certainly not the 2nd time you decide to play against them

Yes to this. And different buffs are not nearly as easy to get, let alone duplicate, as it is to cast the spell every wizard knows.
