Hello Dakka,

I have recently gotten my hands on some imperial guard, and after enjoying so many awesome P&M blogs that you guys have uploaded, I have been inspired to create my own.

I will be painting my new guard and my sorta new dark eldar, and maybe some other models on the way for fun or as favors for freinds, and please, feel free to leave whatever constructive comments about my (below) tabletop painting.

So this is what I have to paint -

-a single chimera

-a single leman russ

-2 servitors

-a half-finished techpriest

-a heavy weapon team

-a commisar

-an aegis defense line

-and a platoon command squad.

Stuff I have finished

20 guardsmen

a company command squad

a chimera

This was my first cadian.

and a wych to showcase my DE scheme

sorry for the crappy photo quality, I am only using my iphone, it is dark outside and my room is poorly lit (edit: I got a new camera, so the image quality has improved drastically).

also, I am looking for a good citadel texture paint to base with, I used the mourn mountain snow for my dark eldar and it looks quite good IMO.

happy wargaming,

-Mikey

looking good so far, can't wait to see more. I can't really tell from the picture of the guardsman, but you are using washes, yes?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

So I found this Cullexus (?) assassin while looking at my shelf, I think he was a part of my space marines that I didn't sell. Anyhow, I slapped some paint on him and I think it looks quite interesting.

I have two highlights on the armour, I usually do three on these types of models, however, I think it looks cool without the general first highlight, and me just skipping straight to edge highlighting.

The thing that I am contemplating right now is if I should glaze the red or not. I am happy with it, however, I would like someone to differ from my opinion.

I still need to finish the gold, bone, and silver, and he is still very much a WIP, I though I would just share this with you.

I realize the pictures are still terrible, but they look better when the sun is out, and not terribly out of focus on my workbench.

more to come, thanks for viewing, and happy wargaming,

-Mikey

and some better pictures of my guardsmen. I am stunned I painted a total of 25 of these guys without losing my head. Sorry for the hand in the second one, my camera wouldn't focus on the guardsmen for the life of me.

and yes, I am washing them. I wash all my models.

Quick update, I just ordered a few things, including some inquisitors, ogryns (woo!) and some more guardsmen (ugh, its a necessary evil I guess.

I am debating weather to assemble them as bullgryns or ogryns, as I do not have magnets or a drill, so magnetization is out of the picture.

happy wargaming,

-Mikey

I just got home from my FLGS, after I played my first game as my guard.

It was a devastating loss, we played a 2v2 stronghold assault game, I was allied with tyranids fighting against a ork and chaos alignment.

I borrowed some models from my friend, and learned quite a bit about the guard.

The orks brought an apocolypse formation, the ork dread mob or something.

It was a lot of armour, and they eventually broke out line due to the limited amount of tank traps we could bring.

anyways, I finished up the cullexus assassin, and I think he is looking pretty dapper. I added another highlight to the skinsuit. It was a 2:1 mix of wildrider red to white scar, and I think it looks quite cool. I am still debating the glaze and maybe a gloss coat, and would like someones advice.

If you are viewing the forum, please comment and let me know you are here, as it feels like I am talking to myself.

thanks, happy wargaming,

I just bought a valkrie from ebay. Really cheap, It is missing the back of one of the missile pods, a base, a fin on the tail, and a questionable loadout. However, It was $10.

It is already primed so there is nothing I could do about fixing the mistakes already on it.

crappy condition, but it will have to suffice until I could get my own kit, pics will be up once it is painted.

Also, should I do camo stripes on it? I think so as it helps break up the castellan green, the belly will be just green however.

I was gifted a much better camera from my friend as he bought a new one, I just need to buy a memory chip and I could have pictures up using it.

happy wargaming,

-Mikey

Yay! I am ecstatic, I got me a new camera and memory chip, so now my photos may be understandable now!

so I have painted my valkrie, it was probably the second largest model I ever painted, the larges being an imperial knight, but that wasn't entirely green, and had the skeleton and armour plates to mix up the colour.

I also got a cool kroot shaper as a gift for my brother, its an old metal one that I got on ebay. and I acquired one of the GW basing kits, and I have some cool ideas, and I will make a test base and maybe use it for my guard.

valkrie -

shaper -

basing kit -

im exited to find the uses of the basing kit, and anyways, happy wargaming,

-Mikey

Well. Your guardsmen are looking a lot better than mine. Keep up the good work

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I like the color scheme on the Valkyrie. The only thing I might change is to paint the cockpit canopies a darker color (just my 2 cents). I, too, have one of those metal Culexus assassins, and am looking forward to painting him (soon, I hope!). Hopefully I can make him look as good as yours (although I am planning on going a different direction as far as color scheme).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
