DakkaDakka, help me decide my tyranid colour scheme. The pics are the ideas I've had so far but I'm not 100% set on them.

I was going to do an Ebola-chan colour scheme but I couldn't quite work out how to do the colours so I gave up.

Willing to take any serious suggestions into account. I'd also rather avoid anything too close to the default Hivefleets.

Tigernids. Love the orange and black against the cool light blue.

I like the second last carnifex but I would take a darker brown, I find its good to play with tones, some part being quite dark with other parts being light.
My own Tyranids play with lots of dark yet some pretty strong highlights. you can check out my colourscheme on the link below.

On second thoughts, I think I might slightly prefer a light greeny-blue against a strong orange black.

I totally agree about tones. I would keep the orange/black dark and the turquoisey shade light.

Of the two I like the Tigernids better, but I'm curious how the cream carapace of the junglenids could look with the pale green/blue of the Tigernid flesh areas.

Yeah, that's it. Damn that looks freaky.
Sort of thing I'd go for (maybe mute the darker blue a bit) but I accept it might share a bit of a sickly nurgley palette.

not blue and green. just a slightly more green blue than you have on the original tigernids.

I personally like this the best, but with the ice blue instead of the green. I think it would provide a better contrast and really make those slimy bits pop.

Your going in the right direction but I would push it even further, darker brown and maybe the grey/green too, getting close to full black in the recesses.

One more thing I can recommend as well is to make sure that the head has a unique color on it, like with the eyes, teeths or tongue or even just his whole face. I could recommend an earthy bright yellow for the tongue and eye.
Being extremely versatile on their anatomy, the tyranids can make people wonder "where the hell is the head on this beast?", making the head stand out on Nids makes a great effect normally.

Doing the same for gun ends and CC weapons is usually a good idea too

I like the 2nd variant of the Tigernids, but I'd verge on a darker blue for the limbs and chest - possibly a royal blue or even a navy blue. IMHO, I find the paler blue on the limbs and chest washes the orange out too much and doesn't give it the right amount of pop. That said, I like the more electric blue of the sacs and the bio-cannon-thingie (As you can tell - I'm not that clued up on Tyranids ) and I think it'll look good as an accent to draw the eye.

You inspired me so I took you image and played with it on photoshop a bit.

Maybe this can inspire you a bit and show what I mean by accentuating the head.

This is certainly more complex as a paintjob but not necessarily by that much as most of the additional colors are in small quantity and make a big difference in the finished product.

I really like what you did with the head and the big ol' lovesack, but I think the body might be a bit too dark. It'd lose a lot of the amazing body definition that tyranids have (and what makes them so much harder to paint than marines and so much satisfying at the end).

I'm a bit lost as to what to do, to be honest.

The Tigernids scheme is honestly one of the coolest I've see, and would be really easy to accomplish with a grey primer!

Really dig the cool blue contrast as well, but I think the fleshy-bits could be a little more intense and opaque; you could do some really intense blending work between those parts and the blue-white skintone

I was thinking about your "tigernid" scheme colour, with the body on brown. I like the orange/black on the plates, but as you named it tigernid, I'll try to paint some longer black strips.
For the brown body I think that begin on a dark chocolat color would be fine to get a degree with the final highlights with a mix of chocolat brown and mahogany, or mahogany pure.
Finally for get a strong contrast I think that the weapons, blades, and so, will be fine in a deeper red, if you want it with a hot scheme color, or carmine red if you want a subdued color.

I think I'm gonna go for a rough and ready icenid scheme. Mainly for contrast against my black and gold Cryx force.

Also, it'll be pretty easy, except for (probably) the white.

The plan is: Prime gray, paint joints (and the rest of the fleshbits) in a neon blue, do carapace with either a blue wash or (if that's not light enough) very lightened blue paint. Do body in a slightly off white (probably 3 parts white to 1 part light grey) and then highlight with white. Paint claws etc in one of the dirty bone colours I've got. Finish up carapace.

I'd say paint some small examples of all, you'll get a much better idea of what looks good, and whether any of the schemes will be easier / more fun to paint.

I did these when deciding on a scheme -

Spoiler:

I had no intention of going green and yellow, until I painted a few little gribblies to see what grabbed me. Hope this helps
