Corvus Corax Miniatures is a small hobby project that is being developed and managed by a single person; a hobbyist like yourself who now has taken a greater interest in the developing aspect of this hobby alongside of playing, painting and collecting miniatures. This is the second project launched on Kickstarter. The first one was successfully funded and was fully delivered on time. This time around this project is of a slightly larger magnitude where the goal is to raise funds for 12 characters for three different factions, which would allow for you to field them as a playable force for the game-to-be.

About the funding goal of this project…

The goal of this project is to attempt to raise funds for the production of 12 miniatures (see below) for three different factions (Outcasts, Exiles and Nomads). The miniatures are to be cast in high quality, non-toxic, resin. The scale of the miniatures are 35 mm (measuring to the eyes in a standing, straight pose).

Out of the 12 miniatures for this project 11 have already been sculpted and pre-production resin casts have been completed and approved for final production for 10 of these. A successful project here will help me kickstart the miniature range.

the first KS was fulfilled nice and smoothly

Very cool! The model I've received from Corvus Corax is fantastic and an extremely clean cast.

I put in for at least one guy even though I see a very distinct lack of scales and reptiles . Maybe the samurai guy in ornate armor, or the octopi guy to hang out with all my other Dark Mariner mutants.

What I really want are the canine and lion guys down in the stretch goals though. Been wanting to do a lion themed warband for a while now.

Is it just me, or are these pretty big? Like, 36mm scale big instead of 28 or 32? Am I reading those scale shots right?

I'm in for one, I actually want two, but it isn't clear if that's the same price as one or higher (the stretch goals seem to be more expensive)

Add on minis are 130 SEK the same price as a normal single mini (outcast) pledge, although the 20 cheap discounted single mini pledges of120 SEK so it is may seem a bit more

(but you won't need to pay any extra shipping as 50 SEK will cover up to 4)

There are unfortunately a very distinct lack of scales and reptiles, but it should please you to hear that I do have the plans for one scaly character, so it would be seen (one day). Also, to disappoint you further, the "Guardians" aren't really lion-based, but more based out of, mainly, cats/dogs from the African savannah. So in the stretch goals you see a jackal, you see a sabretoothed lion, and a black panther. This particular faction will also include a human in their ranks, so it will not be an entirely "cats/dogs" themed warband.

Wehrkind wrote:Is it just me, or are these pretty big? Like, 36mm scale big instead of 28 or 32? Am I reading those scale shots right?

The official scale I am using is 35 mm (to the eyes in a straight standing position). However, some characters will be larger while others will be a bit smaller. A mutated, hulking beast of a man should stand a bit taller than your average "human-sized character", or there are some in full-sized armour which would also make them a bit larger... Anyway, this is why I've added the scale reference shot. To be as transparent as I can be with the acual sizes as I know that it's very important to some people.

The add-ons for the stretch goals are priced as a "single miniature" pledge (Outcast-pledge). In my opinion, it's quite a good deal, but let's not discuss pricing as it's very subjective. What I find as a good deal, some else will consider a robbery, etc.

just under half way to funding

so how about a shot of a painted Otomo (sculpted Patrick Masson) from the Corvus Corax facebook page?

how about a painted Gorgr for today from facebook

Gorgr goes under many names where Kraken or Hafgufa are among the most commonly used, and many of the outcasts, not only of the Dur Makeb, believes that he hails from the ancient old ones, and that he ascends land only to wreck havoc onto the world. While Gorgr isn’t divine, he is indeed ancient and has existed for generations, and through the latest decades he has been deep at slumber under-sea. Why he has awoken now, and why he is marching with the Dur Makeb tribe is not really known, for Gorgr rarely speaks. But as the tribesmen whispers; it might be because he has heeded the call of a great alpha, and that the end-times is slowly approaching.

Sculpted by Luc "Thantor" Pinganaud

Yep, Gorgr is high up on my list too, he is certainly spiffy. I think Keras is really cool too though.

Very nearly half-way funded now, I really hope some more people jump onboard this project too make it a reality!

I'm not trying to start anything, but should I be concerned that Jody Siegel is a sculptor for this project? I'm aware that his own KS is massively delayed.

Hmm just saw that the shipping will be in waves, sent out as each mini is produced. Since I'm primarily interested in the Outcasts, I guess it would be safe to back for them only.

I think this is the sculpt he's mentioned on his own campaign that he needed to "fix" for a client. Afaik it's very far along and has been WIP for some time... I think he has done other work during his campaign for outside jobs and completed them successfully - I wouldn't personally be worried about this (sculpts for his own campaign are, unfortunately, another matter entirely).

There is no need for any concerns at all, I can assure you. The Outcasts is the part of the range that has been advanced the furthest, and even if the "first Outcast SG" (@118k SEK) is reached, I believe that even that figure should have a really great potential of beating the estimated deleivery. Also, if you would be intersted in the first add-on, Kruuz, it is available already now, so that won't cause any delays either.

I'd also put in that Jody Siegel seems to be basically reliable when sculpting for a wage paid by somebody else

his own KS (where the moneys been handed over already), unfortunately, not so much

Are any of the other "nonhuman" models done? I absolutely love Keras, but since I'm not doing any projects with humans atm I can't really use the others. Some of the art in the stretch goals, I would have to pledge for just because they're insanely awesome (and nonhuman) - like the second and third stretch goals. Also, if these unlock, are they add-on only or can they be selected as our pledge figures?

Right now I have a placeholder in but hoping to up it before the end!

Some work has been started on some of the stretch goals. The 118k SG will be done by Roberto Chaudon, and could possibly have an early WIP before the project ends. The 127k SG will be done by Patrick Masson, but finding time in his over-booked schedule is not easy, and it will not be started until december at the very earliest, so that one I wouldn't hold my breath for it to be completed before the estimated delievery of the original intended 12 characters.

If any of the stretch goals are unlocked they can indeed be picked in your "main" pledge, although, it would potentially knock back the delievery time then.

Here is an early WIP shot of Vakr, which now means that 11 of the 12 miniatures are completed sculpts, while the last one (Vakr) is on its way of also being completed. This means that the estimated delivery should easily be met unless any unforseen problems would occur.

I hope you like the progress. I am quite confident that it will turn out just as amazing as the others!

and 60,000 SEK raised so far (3/5 of the way to funded)

Grefven has suggested pledgers add shipping to help move the numbers a bit (a 6000 SEK boost is possible apparently)

making the numbers move again would hopefully tempt more backers in

and a pretty picture

Update #2 Aug 21 2015

WIP 2 progress

WIP Vakr

Another WIP of Vakr; this time it's in its almost finished state. I hope you enjoy it! Personally, I find it absolutely fantastic, and couldn't be more happy with the result. Once the few final details are also completed, this will be quite an awesome miniature for sure!

Progress of the Kickstarter

Unfortunately, the Kickstarter has come to quite the stand-still the latest few days, and there has sadly been quite the significant loss because of backers pulling out and cancel. Because of this I have been in contact with a few retailers who have agreed to supporting the project. But even still it will not be anywhere close enough of getting funded. But there are still several days left, and hopefully some more backers will see the potential of this project and, above all, the incredible quality of the miniatures!

Progress of the project in itself...

Otherwise, the project itself is slowly being progressed. The background is being written, and I'm being in contact with someone who might start writing some shortstories for the world. Furthermore, some more concepts are being developed that I hope I can turn into miniatures (see sneakpeak below). But right now, unfortunately, it appears a bit too far away to be reached.

The rules are still being worked upon, albeit the progress is slow. But that is all according to the plan, as my main objective at this point is to release some miniatures for the project first and then focus on the rules.

Sneakpeak

and with it a big boost in funding to 73800 SEK,

Update #3 ℹ Aug 23 2015

Spotlight: Aktra, Sword-Mistress of the Tetsu Clan

Aktra is a miniature that is very important for me, as this is where it all started back in 2013. She was the first character imagined and created for this project and the concept art just captured everything that I wanted it to be, and it encouraged me to continue to develop the project as I just HAD to create a crew to join her!

This is her history:

1.) Initially, sketches to find the attitude in a pose. You can already now see the rough design of the costume, armour and weapon. These are actually the second set of poses, as the first ones were a bit too static, and I felt that I had to get something more dynamic. The concept artist nailed the pose in the second set of sketches.

2.) We agreed on a pose; but prior to this, we needed to finalize the design of the character. The turn-around was also created to provide some extra information for the sculptor to work with. You can also see here where I got the idea of the Corvus Corax Miniatures logotype from. Or at least part of it.

This part was actually completed quite fast. The concept artist was a dream to work with, and we both loved working on this character. There are a lot of female miniatures on the market that are a bit too "sexy" and "cheesy". What I wanted to create was a female character that would have the attitude and design of a warrior and not a "sexobject" as can be seen in so many other miniatures. I hope that you feel that it was accomplished.

3.) The next step was to take the design above and finalize it into the dynamic pose. Spot on. Perfect. I was in love. This will be my mistress, forever.

4.) Eventually, I managed to get in contact with Patrick Masson who agreed on sculpting her for me. This was such an honour for me. Patrick Masson! Wanted to work on a project for me. For this tiny indie-project?! I will tell you the truth. I was awestruck. One of the greatest sculptors of all time! For me, this was like working together with the Michelangelo of today.

Below you will see how Aktra truly was born. Step by step. The pure awesomeness is astonishing. I believe that you will agree with me. As you can see, there are some minor differences between the concept art and the sculpt. This is how I want to work. Provide the concept art to the sculptor, and then allow them free hands to interpret it as they see it. I believe that it will provide the best result that way.

5.) I knew, once she had been completed, that I wanted her painted by someone really talented that could do her justice. I knew I couldn't. My skills aren't good enough. Sebastien Picque did a great job with the paintjob, and brought her even more into life.

Now, this beauty sits at my home, centerstage, forever with me.
