Hi all

Well, as I am a new member I thought the best place to start on dakka was to log my hobby progress. I mentioned in my introduction that I am going to be building a mechanicum and skitarii force which will represent Forge World Lucius. I wanted the style to be quite dirty and battle worn as my normal painting style is quite clean cut and neat so I want to break away from that a bit.

What you will see in the attachments is my test model which I am happy with for now, this model Will set the colour scheme of the rest of the army and also the style which I want to follow. However the model was very time consuming which I have to cut down as I would like to have an army on the table before Christmas.

Any comments welcome and any tips on painting or the speeding up there of will be most welcome

Regards

Very nice indeed!

Mu suggestion for speeding the process up would be batch painting. If whole squads are too daunting for batch painting, I sometimes do 3 or 4 models at a time, helps to keep it manageable but still picks up the pace.

Paint job is solid as far as I can see. Did you use a brown wash on the metal areas? I like the greasy look you've achieved.

I used a mix of agrax earth shade and seraphim sepia for the wash on the metal. Thinking about pushing my boundaries on the next mini and trying some off source lighting, but I'm gonna need some help.

Anyone any suggestions ?

My understanding is that OSL is unnecessarily difficult without an airbrush. Otherwise Youtube is your friend for tutorials.

My other suggestion is to rotate your pictures

Looking good mate. Gave me a crick in my neck while I had to go over the photos, kept seeing nice little details.

Also OSL is entirely possible to do it with brushes, you just need to be particular with where you apply the paint and how you do it. If you basically consider it like a normal highlight (using paints that are maybe slightly thinner than normal), and work up through the colours all the way to pure white, you will come out good.

I did some tonight on the Volkite blaster of my Tech Priest Dominuns, it was all done with a regular brush. You can see it below.
