I've been told that some of the GW paints are going OOP. I don't know if they're just being discontinued or whether they're being replaced, I just know it's due to happen in November. The colours going are:
Ratskin flesh
Warpfiend Grey
Slaanesh Grey
Ungor Flesh
Bestigor Flesh
Dark Reaper
Thunderhawk Blue
Tyrant Skull
Mourn Mountain Snow
Lamenters Yellow
Daemonette Hide
Etherium Blue
Blackfire Earth
Lustrian Undergrowth

The trade brochure for the Best Sellers range has red dots next to the paints and when I asked what that was that's when I was told.

certainly it seems likely that the demise of fantasy and the renaming of stuff in AoS might lead to some paint name changes, but this seems more than that (if true),

but then they 've already released new AoS colours and maybe there are more to come and this is just a rationalisation to make stuff fit in the paint racks?

whatever if any of the above are vital to a big project you've got running time to get a few spares in

There is the possibility that at least some are just being renamed. There are some really core colors there, like Rakkarth (Ratskin?) Flesh and Dark Reaper, and Lamenter's Yellow is a key glaze.

Daemonette Hide and Thunderhawk Blue are also important colors, and Etherium blue and Tyrant Skull are popular drybrush paints.

But just in case... I picked up a 6-pack of the Dark Reaper today :X I will grab some Rakkarth, too, and maybe Thunderhawk. Those are the colors I think I'd be miffed about if they were gone forever; the rest, I could live without.

Daemonette Hide is such a wonderful purple. I'd be sad to see it go.

Especially in the GW range, which is purple-deficient anyhow. Like, you take out Warpfiend grey and daemonette hide and... we don't have much left in the light purple range

Ratskin Flesh is a Base paint, with Bestigor Flesh and Ungor Flesh as its Layer paint highlights. Looks like its groupings of paints on the chopping block (Ratskin, Bestigor and Ungor Flesh; Dark Reaper and Thunderhawk Blue; Daemonette, Warpfiend and Slaanesh Grey) along with two Dry (Tyrant Skull and Etherium Blue) a Glaze (Lamenters Yellow) and about half the Textures (Mourn Mountain Snow, Blackfire Earth and Lustrian Undergrowth). If this is true, I'll miss Thunderhawk Blue the most as I'm going to use it for my Necrons.

I have always found Vallejo's Game Color "Sick Green" to be almost dead on for Snot Green. I always used it as the drybrush over Dark Angels Green (Army Painter "Angel Green", now) on Orcs/Goblins and I don't see any difference between models from the Snot Green era and the Vallejo era.

The plus side is that I am still on my original bottle 6 years later, as droppers really never dry out. That and the original era Citadel Colours. I have several of the colored metallics that are still perfect and I paint special things with them. 15-18 years per bottle is not a bad return on an investment!

Where would I get decent quantities of dropper bottles and funnels to pour paint into them? I'm planning on buying a lot of paint soon, and want to dropper them all, lol.

As for the paints in question, i'll have to get some lamenters yellow and Etherium Blue.

eBay or dollar store. If you're really spendy, there's Reaper ones, that are identical to the reaper paints (but they're like a buck a piece).

Some of the cheap dropper bottles cause a little more evaporation than others.

Thanks for the heads up Orlando, will definitely go and get a few Daemonette Hides this week

I would say this is just repackaging with new AoS related names than anything else

Was eyeing up Thunderhawk blue for my Elysians recently. May have to get a few pots before they vanish as I can't seem to find an equivalent in other ranges (or I'm blind)

Aye. and yet another revamp. Don't know why they need to constantly mess around with their paints, especially after the latest bunch of paints seems to be well received. Even I picked some up after some of my Vallejo's and Coat D'Arms colours have run out.

That's... strange... after they only recently kitted out all the stores with that fairly comprehensive paint chart, and supplied it along with a recent White Dwarf.

I sometimes wonder what causes these decisions. Maybe the tiny elves they crush for those particular colours have migrated for the Summer.

The only reason I can fathom is they are AoS-ing their paint range names. So old Warhammer names are out. Age of Sigmar names are in including some 40k renames to tie it all together.

Yeah, names like Lustrian Undergrowth aren't really in use anymore.

This is why I haven't even looked at the newest GW range.

I don't think they make bad paint, in fact, I've always thought it very good, bottles were never right for me but suited the market of kids painting in the stores though.
Its that they change too often.

I started painting my current marines 8 years ago, using model air italian red. I can go and buy another bottle today, and its the same exact colour. Same will be true in another 8 years. That is the main thing I want from my paint.

I can always overcome little issues with thinning or coverage, even dodgy bottles,as long as I can always get the colours I want.

Yeah I'm thinking of moving away from GW paints to other, more stable brands completely, if this is anything more than a name change.

A reliable source told me it's because GW can't get the tears of grown men they need on account of everyone being so happy with Age of Sigmar these days.

Personally, this won't affect me as I'm discovering the joy of reaper paint and droppers in general (it's actually possible to consistently mix a shade of colour, who knew! ) but it sucks that they constantly change up the paint range. I'm very surprised that many people are fans of gw's current paint range. In my experience anything that wasn't blue, green or red was horribly mixed, and by that, I mean not mixed at all. The water would be completely seperated from the pigment which was clumped at the bottom and even shaking for several minutes didn't really help. It would only partially work and the paint would look very milky yet be very clumpy. It was a shame because I used to be a very big fan of their paints before the current range and I felt the range suffered a hupe drop in quality from where it once was

I've never had that sort of problem. Then again, most paints are green, red and blue...

I've had more than a few paints that need constant shaking/mixing from the 2012 citadel range. Ceramite white is a reliably consistent repeat offender for me (not just from one batch either - three pots bought at least a year apart each). Funny thing is ceramite white is still impressive enough to keep using it even with that drawback

Not using these colors, but that would be a pain to anyone who does.

I'd take a look at P3 Trollblood base, or the Vallejo Model Color French Mirage Blue or Grey Blue.

I actually switch over most of my paints to Vallejo after the last paint change cost me the first 2 main colours of my Tyranid army. Daemonette Hide is the 3rd but I couldn't manage to find a similar colour and I ended up with a bunch of lovely purples that just are not right.

I recommend the P3 white. It's so much better than the GW Ceramite White, in my experience, and I'm even a big fan of GW's paints. But P3 are definitely worth trying if they have a color you need. Nice paint pots too.
