Subject: Converting SM, which sets are good for parts? Warhammer sets good for unique swords? Help w/LotD?
Wanted to do several things, a custom Salamanders Xavier for a friend, Custom Cypher, Legion of the Damned, my own Chapter Storm Gryphons. Was hoping to get my hands on some Chaplain Helmets too. I think I heard Sternguard had some nice pieces for converting.

Subject: Coverting Space Marines, which sets are good for parts? Any Warhammer sets good for unique swords?
From personal conversion experience the chaos boxes for fantasy have some amazing weapons. The only issue is they are very chaos-y. Though the Dark Elves have some unique looking blades that aren't all chaos'd up and the new stormcast paladins have some cool looking hammer/axe/glaive/sword options.

Sternguard and Vanguard both have some nice helmets for converting, as do the Grey knights. Chaplain helmets are more difficult to find, although I find the Forge World Night Lords' Terror Squad helmets are really good for Chaplain conversions. For converting the Crozius Arcanum for chaplains, power axes, power mauls and thunder hammers are a great start, unless you want a two handed crozius, in which case, the Blood Angels Death Company and the Grey knights have plenty of options for the crozius. Just snip off the head and replace it with an appropriate icon.

I agree with the suggestions for chaos kits, grey Knights, space marine vet kits, and the death company. They all have dynamic poses and most details can be scraped away if you are careful. Sorry no pictures, my IMac died and can't upload anything.
On a personal note, I am kit basing chaos marines and space wolves to make the 13th company, with plans to play them as the Legion of Damned.

Oh wow that sounds pretty cool Musselman, would very much like to see those. I forgot which after market company sells werewolf heads, but from what I saw they were really cool. How are you gonna do up the hands?

Thank you as well Dax415, right now I have just made regular marines, with the hope of running the wolfen as terminators, maybe even bikes? Haven't gotten the kits yet, but was planning on getting some fantasy Beatigors or whatever they are called(sorry don't play fantasy yet haha). For the heads I was planning on getting some third party ones, I think PuppetsWar? Again haven't gotten that far yet.
The chaos kits have great stuff for chaplains and Librarians, but purifier squads have the most appropriate bits for special characters, inquisitors, and space marine characters. When I get my IMac up and going, and have an decent place to take pictures I will get them up.

The best chaplain helmet comes from the Chaos Warriors box.
Drops straight into a Marine torso and looks the biz.

I'll try and get some pics up here in a few days with some of my newest creations. But if you look in my gallery under "Anointed" you can see some a few. All the ones there use shoulder pads, heads, and weapons from the chaos knights box. i have some newer models that use weapons from the khorne wrathmongers box.

Instant cypher. csm weapons on DV Interrogator chap and robed helm of DA upgrade kit and you are done. you can also buy cyphers back pack directly off gw too if you dont want to convert it.
custom LotD is gona be a paint but i think lots of Black Templar upgrade bits would work well. no idea what your storm gryphons will look like so cant comment

no idea who xavier is.
pics plox.
That is a really nice conversion of Chaplain Seraphicus, would kill two birds with one stone too. Would have chaplain crozius and helm in one swoop. Not familiar with the pieces to convert the backpack though.
Oh I got a pic of Salamanders Chaplain Xavier. My Storm Gryphons are on a back burner since my group is still getting rid of their Heresey armies. We are gonna have special properties like other specialty Marines do, just nothing extravegant to disturb house rules balance.

This might give you some ideas on what might be useful for a Chaplain: Parts list:
Crozius is a banner icon from the plastic multipart captain mounted on a Khorne Berserker chainaxe arm
Head is from the CSM squad box
Body is from the Khorne Berserkers box
Legs is from the Khorne Berserkers box
Arms are from the Khorne Berserker box
Chapter shoulderpad is a standard shoulder pad
Aquilla shoulderpad is from the CSM squad box. Aquilla is a shaved down vehicle Aquilla body with GS wings
Holster/Grenades from the CSM squad box
Backpack is a stock marine one with a banner icon.

How do I attach the icon? Do I need to pin it? Or just glue together?
