To wing or not to wing? That is the question that has been plaguing my efforts on this Deathwing Dred. Not sure if they look awesome or just a bit weird! Please give me your opinion and advice on this matter. Let me know if you guys prefer one of the combinatios or another you might have in mind.
Thanks

It looks pretty cool, but I'm going to be honest, if you plan on playing with this mini much you're going to probably want to dial back the protuberances.

That purity seal on the missile launcher arm is going to snap off quickly while moving or in transport/general use. If you had made it out of something a little sturdier such as thin aluminum then you'd only have to worry about it popping off where it was attached in one piece. As it sits, it'll likely break off somewhere around where it bends underneath the missile launcher arm.

Not trying to sound overly critical, I'm just looking at this from a general use perspective. The actual seal and blowing effect you've pulled off is awesome I'll note, just hate to see something that looks that cool get broken when you bump it or accidentally drop the mini. :(

I think keeping the DA Icon on top of the sarcophagus is a good idea. I like it up there and it'll look cool on the final product. I would leave the swooping hawk wings off for two reasons. One: More fiddly bits to get knocked off of the mini during general use. Two: They look elven/alien, since they come from an Eldar model, and are not man-made looking.

Overall I love the bits added on to the mini so far. The etched brass, the purity seal on the right side, and banner on the left side all look good. I would consider lowering the banner on the left front so it's attached just below the scanner lenses and sensor array at the top left of the shoulder. Just a suggestion there.

Hope that helps, and I look forward to seeing the final product soon if nothing else! Take it easy for now.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Aluminium is a great idea! The green stuff mix i used (loads of yellow) allowed for a more flexible finish so i hope thats going to survive any travel. The wings are from elder and with a lot of work i think i may be able to pull off a more avian look, but they will break...for sure :( maybe i will pin them and hope for the best.
Thanks for you input on this matter but i think i need to think....a lot.

Plus, isn't the whole "wing" thing more of a thing amongst ravenwing bikers?

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

The Deathwing terminator set from gw contains them and they're seen on greenwing too. RW do use them more though for sure.

That's an improvement for sure on the eldar swooping hawk wings. Nice shaving work on the metal.

As I said, I'm all for having cool bits and bobs on models, but there's a point where having too many can be an issue, especially when they're prone to get hung up on things or snap off if someone bumps the model with their hand, or worse, the model takes a tumble to the floor while being moved around.

Using those wing bits on a ravenwing biker's backpack, or on a bike such as near the handlebars would be a MUCH better use for them I think. They're cool bits, and I think their use could be better served on a smaller/ mini where you can attach them more securely and still get a cool effect.

Hope that helps. Take it easy for now.

Some great feed back Red. Still not sure what to do with them though. Just want it to look as awesome as possible. So if it gets broke at least it WAS awesome just moments earlier haha. So on aesthetics ONLY and sticking with the DA iconography what do ya think? Mainly on looks and which positions do you like. IF i keep them it will be a lot of work to get them looking right (hence why i question) and i will have to pin them well for sure. My RW is done already and i both like the wings on the dread and fear they look stupid haha.
Been staring at this guy for time now. Need to make a firm on it but im waiting for my new airbrush any way so...
