I've been slowly getting into the hobby for a bit now, but am having trouble finding players or a place to play and learn. The only FLGS I can find near me is the Dragon's Den in Poughkeepsie, which doesn't have a 40k focus by any means and no dedicated 40k night, and it's near an hour away. Anyone in or around Orange County N.Y. know of a better spot? Thanks.

I’m upstate, so don’t have a lot of personal experience down in your neck of the woods. There was a thread a bit ago that might help:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/615529.page
There is the Store and Player Finder feature up in the toolbar here. I looks like there might be a store right across the NJ border, might be closer.
Best of luck and welcome to Dakka.

You could try Toywiz in Nanuet NY.
It is around 40 mins from Orange County. They have a forum for scheduling games so it makes finding opponents easy. Currently they are doing a big Bolt Action escalation tournament, but there are a bunch of 40k players who are regular. It just some of them are playing BA games for the tourney.

You have to sign up to see anything.
It easily the best gaming group I have ever been part of. Tonight happens to be monthly Vets net where the story stays open late to let everyone game.

Not sure what part of Orange County you are in, but Croton on Hudson has 3rd Universe. We have a 40k day on Sundays. If you are interested PM and I can give you more info.

Thanks for all the help. Nanuet and Croton are about an hour from me, but I wouldn't mind taking the trip every now and then for a game, so I'll definitely look into both those stores.

I'm pretty new to 40k and sorta new to Orange County (Monroe/Middletown area) and can't find ANYTHING that isn't 45min-1hr. away from me. Have you found anything yet? I wouldn't be opposed to traveling a bit, but don't want to regularly make an hour trip in addition to my hour (one-way) commute daily.
Any help is appreciated!

Haven't found anything worthwhile. It's drained my motivation to continue building my AM army, but with the cold weather I'm back painting again. Plenty of Magic the Gathering everywhere though lol. There's a new place in the Middletown Galleria I'm going to check out this week to see if there's a scene there.

Yo! I made an account to reply to this. I've been looking for a game since I moved here, I'm living in Saugerties NY, and have a little under 2k of IG.

Welcome to Dakka and the Empire State.
You are a bit north of the other guys in this thread, so have a few more options. If you can make it up to Albany, there are a few choices. I know Grimfoe Games in east greenbush has a cool bunch of guys there. There are a couple other places farther north as well. Should be something going on in pougheepsee as well.
There may be a little distance between them, but there is 40k going on all across the state.

Do you know the place in catskill? It's by far the closest to me but I don't know if they have a 40k playerbase. I know they sell the product.

No. I’m north of Albany, in the Saratoga area. My last FLGS (Dirty Goblin Games) recently closed their doors, and I’m transitioning to Cooper’s Cave, both north of me in the Glens Falls area. I’d rather go north, then south due to Albany traffic. I’ve been to a few stores in Albany, Zombie Planet and Flights of Fantasy, but it’s been a long time. I know Grimfoe by reputation, as a group of guys there often came up to the Goblin for tournaments. Cool guys, a little competitive, but not egregiously so (last I checked) But as the most southern of the stores I personally have some knowledge of, I can recommend them to folks down the Hudson. There is a facebook page for capital area 40k But you might have already found that. Or there is another player who just moved to Saugerties that you should get in touch with. Edit: What I refer to as Grimfoe is Flipside gaming. I think there was a change of ownership, so see both names tossed around. They are hosting a tournament soon. Just FYI

As someone who has played at all of Flights, Zombie and Flipside, I can vouch for all of them being fun places to play. Flights of Fantasy is the least competitive group for sure, and Flipside is likely the most competitive with heavy use of the ITC FAQ\Errata and missions, so they all have different strengths and weaknesses. If you ever want to get a game, PM me and we'll set up a time!

What place in Middletown? Let me know if there's anything going on. I started a Space Wolf army last year just before my daughter was born, and without a local place to play, I kind of lost interest in building and painting it up. Looking for a reason though! I also have a Bolt Action box to put together, some Dust Tactics, started some Malifaux minis. Maybe I'm more of a collector than I am a player? Ha!

Finally got a chance to check out the spot in Middletown. It's called Money G Cards and Collectibles. They have a dedicated Warmachine/ Hordes night but not a dedicated 40k night. The guy there said he gets people coming in pretty regularly asking about 40k and anyone who wants to play is more than welcome to play there. Other than that they do the normal suite of card games and it looks like theyre trying to start up an Infinity following. They sell cards, Warmachine, Infinity and other assorted nerd stuff. My be worth checking out. It's in the Galleria at Crystal Run by on the movies side.

Hey all,
I have a house in Orange County (outside Middletown), where I usually go to do yard work monthly.
Definitely would be down to throw dice if I'm in the area.

A bit north of Orange County, but the aforementioned Kirwan's, on Maine Street in Catskill, has some 40k tables and a 40k night. I haven't lived up there for a couple of years now but they might be worth looking into. It's a bit of a hike, but they're only a few minutes from Thruway exit 21.
