Hey guys,

I am looking to start up a new Ork army but looking around I tend to see Orks with much darker looking Orks than I would like. When I first started collecting Orks I painted them snot green and washed them down a fair amount. Has anyone got a brighter coloured Ork army, pictures would be awesome!

Thanks,

Maybe not as bright as you're thinking, since they were painted a base of the old Goblin Green, but then had Scorpion Green as a highlight…

There are other ways you could get a lighter colour. These had a black wash for shading, but I found a green wash made them look a little lighter. You could also try a green wash straight over a white undercoat until you get a green you like. A more brownish green, like Ogryn Camo makes for a more realistic, less cartoony Ork with fairly light skin with a greenish tinge.

It sounds like it's been a while since you painted, and the whole GW paint range has changed, at least in name, so maybe just hit the paint racks and see what strikes you.

There's also a whole bunch of other companies' stuff to choose from too if GW doesn't have exactly what you're looking for.

Although I don't have an Ork army to show you, here is the first one that I painted:

Not sure what the paints are called now, but he was painted Warboss Green, then worked up to pure Scorpion Green.

Here are some (admittedly pretty bad) pictures of my Bad Moons Orks

I also prefer brighter, almost neon green orks. I think the models look so much better when painted that way.

The skin is not too complex. The recipe is:

1. Basecoat Waaagh Flesh
2. Wash Biel-tan Green
3. Highlight the skin with Warboss Green
4. Another Highlight with Moot Green
5. Edge Highlight with a 50/50 mix of Moot Green and Yriel Yellow (You can skip this part if you want to. I don't do it on regular boys)

I guess you could make the green even brighter with a green glaze, like Waywatcher green, but I've yet to try that.
