So, While I play Space Wolves and quite like them, I have for the longest time found myself drawn to the sons of Dorn, The Imperial Fists, and their successors. I'm not sure why, But I quite like them and I'm considering taking the leap and starting a Fists army. But, Are they good? And what units fit thematically with Imperial Fists?

They are middle of the road in terms of C:SM. But if you want to run them, look into the Sentinels of Terra supplement. It makes Bolters twin-linked when fired in Rapid Fire range.

I wouldn't do the Sentinels supplement until an FAQ fixes how that specific Bolter Drill works with Sternguard.

Imperial Fists are decent as a whole. Sternguard are basically everything you want Tactical Marines to be, and one of the characters gives them Objective Secured, which is a minor bonus but nice. You then take Bolter Scouts (Scouts got a HUGE buff in this codex, further solidifying them as the best choice over Tactical Marines as the best non Biker troops) and then your Devastator Centurions or just Devastators are a little better.

They're definitely decent rules wise. Shame yellow is such a terrible color.

Sentinels does cool stuff like moving Devastator Centurions to Elites, thus allowing you to do stuff like running two squads of Dev Cents, two squads of Sternguard, and two squads of TFCs.

Both of them are, but they both need FAQ's that'll never be done by GW.

As far as IF go, they don't have the best Chapter Tactics, but they certainly don't have the worst.

Sentinels of Terra is a good way to go with them, neat relics and more FOC slot shifting.

Good units are Scouts to make use of Close Range Bolter Drill. Las Cannon/Multi-Melta Devastators are also pretty effective. Heavy Bolters have a use in IF, but you'll probably get more mileage out of other special weapons.
