Alright, sportsfans, I am now knee deep in painting, and I am trying out the games workshop method of painting. When you buy something off the site, it comes with a handy little suggestion bar, like Cadian fleshtones when you check out anything IG. These are actually pretty damn helpful, but it is a pain in the ass to hunt through all the figures to see if the "recommended paint bundle" matches what I want to do. I googled "paint bundles, chart, conversion, every word I could think of, and I got nowhere.

See how useful this is? Man, it would really help if someone had the full chart, or could tell me what the frak it is, so I can look each color up myself without trolling the GW site.

Did you look under the Painting tab on the left side of GW's web page?

I think so. it shows bundles that contain everything needed to paint a particular race, but it doesn't list the Base/shade/layer/highlight order that each color requires. I did call the customer support number...they said they didnt offer the chart for sale.

You want the chart? Gimme an hour or two, just roasting some parsnips. I'll do a scan.
They don't do it free, but it was available in April's White Dwarf and on the wall at Warhammer World.

Select 'Painting & Modeling' at the top of the page, then select 'Painting' and then 'Paint Bundles' on the left side of the screen.

I followed your instructions, Ghaz....I got this.

its all the paint you want to build something, but it doesnt have the instructions. I think Buttery will be the savior here, I'm going to wait patiently until he uploads his image.

Okay, sorry for the wait, the reason it took a while is that this is not remotely shaped like something that goes in a scanner.

Here is the big-ass chart. I have a 67 meg version if someone really wants to print it on their bedsheets.

Click it and download from there. Same applies to all the others in this topic.

Here are individually printable sections that should fit on US Letter.
Spoiler:

My parsnips are fething spectacular btw.

Did you scroll to the individual bundles starting on the second page? There's not really a need for instructions with GW's system. Its all Base, followed by Shade, two Layers and a Dry with an occasional Glaze which is what you get in the individual bundles.

Note that the 'instructions' aren't really that to begin with. If you watch the tutorial videos that GW publishes, Duncan rarely uses a complete bundle and often mixes the bundles. For example, the Militarum Tempestus tutorial bases with Russ Grey, washed with Agrax Earthshade, layered with Thunderhawk Blue and highlighted with Fenrisian Grey. That's paints from two different bundles and a wash that's not listed for either of them. Their bundles are just a way to sell more paints and are not necessarily the best way to paint your models.

Call me a cheapskate, but I'd start out with just a foundation paint and one layering paint and just mix a little white in it each time I want a new layer...

This works with some colors/shades, but adding white or black can sometimes kill the intensity of a color way more than you want it to. For example, adding white to red gives you pink highlights, not brighter red, so you often want to start with a bright red and add yellow to do the highlights. And to make a darker red you'll probably want to mix in some dark brown, not black.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

No worries, glad that was the right thing!

This is fine for small squads. If you want to paint an army, or match the colours you used six months ago, quickly, you are better off using pre-mixed.

Peregrine is right, lots of colours don't work like that (yellow being another for going darker). The gw way of painting is actually pretty good, even if it can be expensive. It isn't how i do it, but different strokes and all.

BC has a good point to with consistency, i mix most of my colours and it is obvious sometimes. Not enough to really bother me yet though.

A few months back there was a rumor they were going to drop a few colors. Can you check the image to make sure they're all there?

They are, it's the same poster graphic they use in the Nottingham store (also I counted the number).

That rumour was pap from someone who talked to a stockist rather than a GW rep iirc.

So its the exact same poster that was in White Dwarf Weekly #66 back in May of this year? Is GW going to reprint the poster in White Dwarf every six months

People were selling them for ludicrous amounts ($50) on eBay over here, so at a guess, people want them and GW don't like that resale culture.

Also there was no PDF of the chart. My copy and the one I photographed before #66 are the only ones I've heard of that made it online.

Of course i could be wrong, and GW are redoing the paint line with substitutions, with no prior notice.

From this THREAD in News & Rumours:

Adeptus Astartes

Via anonymous sources on Faeit 212
I've been told that some of the GW paints are going OOP. I don't know if they're just being discontinued or whether they're being replaced, I just know it's due to happen in November. The colours going are:
Ratskin flesh
Warpfiend Grey
Slaanesh Grey
Ungor Flesh
Bestigor Flesh
Dark Reaper
Thunderhawk Blue
Tyrant Skull
Mourn Mountain Snow
Lamenters Yellow
Daemonette Hide
Etherium Blue
Blackfire Earth
Lustrian Undergrowth

The trade brochure for the Best Sellers range has red dots next to the paints and when I asked what that was that's when I was told.

-Aaron

My Necrons use Thunderhawk Blue, so I'm hoping that this is just a reprint of the chart and not a new chart with the above colors removed.

EDIT: Blowing up the pic as far as I can, I don't see Lamenters Yellow and there are only five Basing Combinations instead of six.
