Subject: An Evening of Bird Painting

I have some free time this evening and I want to try to finish up two pieces for my Astra Militarium army. This army has sat dormant on my shelves for the better part of two years and now as a fun project I have decided to give them a bit more life than the green primer I covered them with back at the beginning of 6th edition which was the last time this army, or any 40k army of mine, has hit the table.
The first few pictures show the basic airbrush highlights I hastily put on the bodies and the coat of gloss that followed. My next step will be to apply decals, wash the panel lines and than paint the crew. I will update the thread with pictures as I progress. I am hoping to finish the two models up this evening, but who knows. This is going to be coming off the cuff and perfection certainly is not my goal, but I am always open to criticism and suggestions.
Enjoy

I have applied a few decals, did a basecoat, and did black oil panel wash. After that I got a little carried away and started to do paint chipping. Next step is to go back to the brush and start detail painting and than go back to take off some of the excess rusty wash after it dries.

I toned down the weathering a bit and brought up a second highlight on the green. Also scrapped the clear cockpits and went with black. Bases have substrate drying, just hanging out with Keith Stone waiting for the glue to harden.

Looking great! Love the weathering on the engines, they look well used indeed.

I sprayed the basecoat on the base last night and went to bed. This morning I gave it a quick dry brush did some pigment work and glued on flocking. I have dullcoated the entire bird and I think she is ready for flight. I will go back and apply a gloss coat to the black windows to bring out a bit of shine but for now that is all. Once I get around to setting up the camera, tripod and lighting I will shoot some quality pictures for my gallery.
I still have quite a few models in this army that need to be finished so I think I am going to start a single thread that chronicals my progression through the project. This quick and dirty project turned out pretty well and I would defiantly be fine with putting these two on the table as is. Thanks for reading, let me know what you think.
EDIT: Also as a side note, my iPad seemed to remember my old dakka info so I will be able to resurrect my old user name. I had to make a new account last night to start this project but now that I have access to my old account I will not be using the new one.
