Subject: Horus Heresy Imperial Fists Question: Did they have MKIII Helmets with MK Bodies?

Hey mates, while getting my Imperial Fists army all set up for both Horus Heresy and 40k, from looking at the upgrade kits online, I noticed that the Imperial Fist upgrade kit comes with the MKIII Helmets and IF Torsos instead of MKIV. Fluff wise, does anyone know if the Imperial Fists had this Armor Layout when they where defending the Imperial Palace on Terra? Or d you think it is just a modeling tweak to give the Imperial Fists there own unique look? Not too picky about, however I would like to follow the fluff and the background of the Imperial Fists as much as possible so I would appreciate the help. Pictures are what I am referring to.

They are actually MK2 helmets... I would buy the regular on from GW and paint them in the Unification Era Scheme...

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

Certainly they would have had such a combination: it's called MkV armor (the mix and match armor).

The helmets in the FW set are MK2 and they are hideous compared to MK3 vanillas.
Also, here is the Unification scheme

I'm doing fists too. For pure aesthetics I decided to just get the FW MK IV shoulder pads and keep everything else straight from the BOC box.

The Legions ranged between 80,000 and 250,000 strong with most falling somewhere in between (iirc). With that many marines who all will have been issues armour upgrades or replacements for damaged parts at different times, with varying availability of armour marks at any given point, the possibility for cobbled together armour combinations is enormous. By the Siege of Terra the IF even had some MK. VII and I'm sure as the siege wore on that they would don whatever was left undamaged and still functioned.
I doubt you'll find any specific artwork or piece of fluff stating that the particular armour combinations in the reference photo were put together. However, the fluff for the setting more than allows for it.
As the plastics are a fair bit chunkier than the resin Mk IV they go with the MK. II/III upgrade pieces quite well imo.

If that is the range of the Legion sizes, then all, not most, would naturally lie "somewhere in between" as if any at all were larger than 250,000 or less than 80,000 then the range would be that new number to the other number and even then all the Legion would still be in between that range.

No, most, rather than all, lie between the range mentioned as a few had the exact numbers (according to what I've seen in print) to establish the upper and lower limits. Thus, they cannot be between those figures and are exempt from being described as such. Hence the usage of 'most'.
