Hey mates. Planning to use the Betrayal of Calth Space Marines for my army so that I can double dip and play both 40k and 30k without too much difficulty. With that being said, I am debating on which scheme to go with so just wanted your thoughts/opinion. Choice is between the traditional Imperial Fist Scheme or the Imperial Fists Templar Brethren scheme so let me know what you think

Why not go with both?

Templar for elite units, regular for grunts.

When I started my legion Fists, i picked up a Templar Brethren squad just because i thought they would be fun to paint (and i wasn't wrong) They were a lot of fun mixing the black with the yellow.

But i think a whole army of them would indeed get old quick. So I vote Mix and Match Personally.

Armies:
32,000 points (Blood Ravens) 2500 (and growing) 1850

PPl who optimise their list as if they're heading to a tournament when in reality you're just gonna play a game for fun at your FLGS are bascially the Kanye West equivalent or 40K.

Oh, here is an idea, do a different yellow and black scheme for each squad. One like each of the above. One like the inverse of each above. One squad half yellow half black. One yellow on the left up top yellow on the right below. And so forth. Would be fun to paint and look good.

I voted for the classic look, but there is no wrong answer here.

The black armour marks them as being Terran marines and veterans of the unification wars.

Appreciate the feedback mates. Reason I ask is that while the yellow would look cool, I have heard all the talk on how difficult it is, including wi th an airbrush. Plus many people think running an IF list with the First Company Paint Scheme for the whole army would be cool. Hence why I asked.

Painting yellow is not particularly difficult with an airbrush, provided that you get your pressure and mix thickness right, it will cover just like any other paint.

Painting yellow is not that difficult with a brush either. Same goes for white.

Use an effective and appropriate basecoat and then apply thin layers for a smooth finish. It'll require a bit of patience, you'll not get it done in a couple of brush strokes, but time-consuming is different to difficult.

Honestly, in my fists army (40k) I mix and match. I think it's a lot nicer to have differences in models. I use black and red on random pieces just to break up the monotony. Shoulderpads and knee pads are the usual suspects, but I've been toying with the idea of arms being different.

If you mix and match, how will you paint the temple breathren if their scheme is being used on random miniatures? Just something to think about.

Wouldn't be too hard actually. The could have the same scheme, but what I would do to make sure they stood out would be there unique Helmets, Shields and Power Swords to start. From there, I can add on a BT Shoulder Pad for the other side and give them all tabards or other Iconography to make them all stand out.
