Hey everyone! I am new to Dakka and wanted to share some pics of some of my tau models.
i keep experimenting with camo paint jobs with various degrees of success. I'm not sure I love the stealth suits, what do you think?
I've been working on this army for over a year on and off. Let me know what you think. If you have any tips, suggestions, criticisms, please share.

I voted 3. It looks really good, but it lacks depth. Any kind of shadow or highlight would be welcome.

Thank you. White is really tough to get much depth, I tried shades but they totally ruin the white.

Definitely thin your paints.

Hmm... What about starting with grey, and then blending up to white?

I really like the scheme, it reminds me of the special units you get in Starcraft that have that nice teal green. I think the flatness of the scheme adds to that as SC was a 2D game ultimately.
The advice I can give is that like others have said you should thin the paint a little since it looks chalky in some places, start with a gray base coat for white areas so it doesn't require as many layers, and I'm personally not a fan of some of the small lines as it feels like there are too many of them.

Tabletop quality, theyre superb. All the quirks i'd have (that have been mentioned many times btw) are stuff you really dont see unless youre right up close. White armor isnt easy to paint, and you still did it pretty well. Improvements are many, but these are still pretty good. If you want to add depth to white, its even nastier to paint. Basically you want to paint the armor in an offwhite color, such as either a very, very light flesh color or gray (usually gray) and use solid white for all the edges, leaving the offwhite only to the depths of the armor or undersides. Thats why i never did white lol. The white on my models are designed to snap out and stare at you, so they dont have shadowing effects but the rest of the armor does. Then again, my white is like ~5% of the model lol. Also, since this is one of the bigger things to me, the lack of basing detail urks me. I build the base before i touch the model, and pose the model accordingly (my 2nd ghostkeel is a painful example of this...ugh that was a nightmare). You could easily do a snow theme, which would entail gray rocks heavily coated in frost (drybrush white on cork plates, done) and snow patches on sand/grass would add a whole new level of detail. I forget the snow trick off the top of my head, but i know it involves elmers glue and some household powder (i wanna say baking powder but i'd double check that before trying lol)

Minty fresh! Seriously though, I like the scheme.
I think the stealth suits are really cool.
Any thoughts on basing?

Thank you all for the comments and tips. I was just going to use "mourn the mountain snow" to base the models. I am interested in some more creative ideas for baseing. Painting white has been a big challenge but I enjoy it.
Here is an example of a non white model I painted recently using many techniques I've learned reading on this forum and YouTube.

Really good for tabletop quality, as mentioned before. If you just did that little bit extra it would really make your models go to the next level. First, for future reference (I doubt you will re-paint all your Tau to get a slightly better effect) use ULTHUAN GREY base for the White, then in all the recesses or boundaries between plates use AGRAX EARTHSHADE (Or for a cleaner finish use NULN OIL) then highlight with SKULL WHITE.
This will add a lot of depth to the miniatures, another thing you could do is add some grey panels to the suits/shoulder pads which really helps break up flat white and makes it less noticeable.
Nice scheme with the camouflage, I am doing basically the same scheme as yours (With blue in place of the green and a few grey panels) so have a look at them for the effect of the white and shading it. If not there are many tutorials out there for highlighting or shading, and I highly recommend GAMES WORKSHOP TAU GHOSTKEEL PAINTING TUTORIAL as it is very useful for newcomers to painting white.
Here is my just finished XV-101 "Maelstrom" Battlesuit (Long story, will be in a post in 20 minutes) which is at Tabletop Standard:

Also fully articulated! (Incredibly frustrating to do)
And for those who are wondering the XV-101 is primarily based off of a MOBILE FRONT suit (Old video game?).
