Games Workshop are doing a countdown of their bestselling miniatures of 2015 on their app. The blight Knights are first at number 28. I see no reason why they would lie about this so it will be interesting to see what kind of minis gw customers are buying. It might also give a hint about gw's future plans.

Something like this came up with FW's lists. Bascially people wondered if GW went by unit sales or gross sales because FW lists Titans as best seller.
I wonder which GW is going by.

Well, for sure, if a range is really popular, like Imperial Knight, it will get more plastic sooner rather than later. I don't know about buffs, but the factions that are popular typically get more frequent updates, so at least they're less likely to be out in the wilderness with terribly outdated rules. I think the more reasonable metric would be unit sales, but of course, we have no idea, and the Warlord Titan being at the top of the list... well... hell, I don't see how that could sell the most units

I'd have to look again, because the app is iPad and I mostly use my Surface Pro, but IIRC, it's bestselling miniature, not box or faction, so BaC or Astartes are out.
I think Windriders could be pretty high, and some of the Skitarri models probably sold really well. The Bloodthirster is likely highly ranked, Stormsurge and Knight Warden, too.

I'd say Space marines will be numbers 25-16 and 14-1.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Not suprised to see the Blight Kings as a best seller. That kit is awesome. My only gripe is that it seems to have enough, or almost enough bits for 2 different kinds of units. One set of Blightkings can be built with heavily armour and shields, the others with little to no armour but extra weapons.
@Zywus
Google "Ben Curry Combat Gauge", revel in the majesty for a bit, then you'll be compelled to buy one. Its magical and cannot be explained by modern science.

Joking aside. this is why this list is interesting. It may be the best look we get at just how badly Aos is doing. If there are no stormcast in the list it will be telling.

My memory is hazy, when did they first appear as a kit outside the box set?

They have had several releases starting in July. So plenty of time to sell. Number 27 is the baneblade by the way.

Which week did the Warlord get in the top ten? The weekend the Warlord launched it sold at least 100 units as they sold every one of them they had made ready for the launch weekend and a few more pre orders on top. I could see it on launch weekend hitting the bottom half of the top ten, I have a feeling that the bottom couple of spaces are usually low volume.
I'm interested if the GW list will include books as I can't see much competing with the Space Marine Codex for number 1 slot if they are counting books.

In that case I'm guess would be either the AoS or HH box sets, unless they aren't counting those either.

So the bestselling kit of the year is Smaug! This confirms that they are counting money made and not units sold. Still surprising to see Smaug up there.
Other things of note. No new age of sigmar stuff in the list. The only fantasy kit in the top 15 is the bloodthirster which is useable in 40k too. No Ork stuff at all. No craft world eldar or dark eldar. tyrannids are more popular than Tau. Adeptus mechanicus have done well.

I must admit I have a hard time picturing a limited production model like Smaug even competing with mass production kits available in stores.
Now since it seems so odd maybe it is safer to not take that list at face value and instead keep thinking something is odd? We do not know how GW determinates the entries in that list. For all we know they said "we expected to sell X models, we sold XX% more, that percent will be used to determinate the best sellers". So you may have a model that vastly exceeded sales expectation ending well classed despite no selling as much as some other models globally.
Of course I know no more than any of you, I'm just saying that there are many way to make numbers tell whatever we want them to tell, so we shall remain careful.
