Imperial Recruit in Training

I've been designing an Imperial Guard Army based on a pirate/criminal motif. It all started in March when I started to design a veteran squad for my regular guard army, but I wanted them to look like a team of mercenaries. Slowly through a lot of conversions I made the squad and they looked awesome. When I was playing a space wolves player he called my army heretics for using alien weaponry, half of the soldiers in the original squad were modeled with Tao and Dark Eldar weapons. I decided that they were heretics but instead of dedicating themselves to a Chaos God, they would be pirates and dedicated to themselves, gaining as much loot as possible then retiring in a quiet corner of the galaxy. So I went about converting some of my Catachans and then adding a few new elements to my army and here is what I have to show for it. The army itself is almost complete, I'm working on a squad of Scions and all I have left are a veteran squad and a heavy weapons squad.

The first couple pictures show off the original squad who I now run as either my Company Command Squad (pic 2) or a veteran squad (pic 1) I started color coding the bases to help me remember who is armed with what; red are commanders, blue are regular soldiers armed with special weapons, and white are medics.

The next three pictures show off the infantry, the core is mostly Catachans painted to look like a mix of street gangsters and pirates (pic 3) but there are few special squads that I either use as veterans or regular soldiers, the one I'm showing off is the all female squad "The Furies" they are made from a couple kits I bought from Victoria Miniatures and some GW bits.

Pictures 4 and 5 show off some of my favorite vehicles I've created, although not very well, I'll need to use a better camera or maybe not have them around so much terrain. The three lemon russ's are Gertie (left) Clyde (center) and Bonnie (right) Gertie was an old model russ I saved from a friend's bitz box. Bonnie and Clyde usually stick together and often act as my warlord. Behind them are my first attempt to make a Rhimera, picture 3 also has a nice shot of it, and my favorite chimera which unfortunately you can't see too much detail on it.

The final picture is of Goose, my vendetta, I figured that while pirates might let their tanks get grimy and rusty they would take nice care of their aircraft, so its a nice bright green. Also since getting the new paint job Goose has not been shot down and completely saved my army three times now which is how he earned his name.

I'm still trying to come up with names for my warlord and the gang shown in picture 3 so if you have any suggestions please share. Also if you have any other interesting conversion ideas that would fit in with my army feel free to share them too.

I love the theme man, it's looking great. And you're right, makes a lot of sense for this army to take particular care of Goose- pirates heart is its ship after all!

Lovely army, I like the Goose and the grafitti tag on the chimera.

These look great! More pirates are needed, I think!

Cool army. I think a cohesive theme for the bases would really help to tie it together as a force.

Looking sweet!
And gamewise, they could basicly ally with any/evryone and get away with the fluff part.

Perhaps some modified ogryns would look cool? Im thinking hook hands, classic rockabilly tattoos and stuff like that.

My suggestion for the warlords name would be "the dread pirate Roberts", keep the business running.
