here it is, the beginning of my adventure into creating a hobby blog!
With the release of betrayal at calth I have decided to start up a 30k legion as I have been hoping to for a while now and have decided to go for the sons of Russ as I already have a sizable collection of them and they are my favorite legion/chapter.
I'm also hoping that this should encourage me to paint a bit more as I'm usually pretty lazy when it comes to getting models finished (usually because I take so much time and care over them that I begin to lose interest). To help with this I am going for a simple yet effective colour scheme of mechanicus standard grey, an all over wash of nuln oil and a drybrush of longbeard grey. which I hope will look similar to this

(all the standard marines will have the fur on the shoulder like this as all the art of pre-heresy wolves shows them with fur on the right shoulder)
I'm not aiming for top standard just something just above tabletop standard will suffice, however I do plan to do plenty of kitbashing as the space wolves kits provide a wealth of fantastic spares.
So far I have built up half a veteran tactical squad, a chaplain, a praetor, a contemptor dreadnaought and a rhino. I haven't got any pics of the rhino or dread yet but will upload them as soon as I have some. I also have a land raider that I will be converting once I get the chance.
My two rhinos and land raider will be the mars pattern ones (the GW models) as they have been shown to exist in limited quantities during the heresy, however any other vehicles I purchase will be the forge world models (deimos rhinos, not sure what pattern the land raiders are) to keep the number of mars pattern ones limited in order to be true to the fluff.

Update!
I have started painting my sergeant and space wolf 1 and have completed their basecoats. I hope to upload some pictures of my rhino and contemptor dreadnought some time tommorow, any positive/constructive feedback is always welcome.

Thanks, it's my first attempt at furs with green stuff so I'm glad to hear they look good, unfortunately I forgot to get the long beard grey dry paint yesterday and I'm not due to visit my local gw until next weekend so it may be a couple of weeks until I have any finished, but hopefully I will be able to get a few basecoated in that time. I also hope to have some pics of of my rhino and dread uploaded tomorrow as I ran out of time to take them today.

Update!
I have managed to build another 3 vet tac marines for my squad and now have photos of them and my rhino and contemptor uploaded to my gallery, I will post them on the blog once I am able to get on my computer.

Really like the contemptor. Looking forward to seeing some paint.

Great work so far.... You team-killing bum! Why dont'cha go do more things the Warmaster tells you! Space wolves are so cool in 40k, but god I hate them in 30k, and that has nothing to do with my thousand sons, I swear.

And this one is probably my most exciting update so far seeing as I now have my first model finished.

There are two more pictures in the gallery that I haven't posted as they aren't as good quality.
The armour was painted mechanicus standard grey washed with nuln oil and heavily drybrushed with long beard grey to highlight and weather it.
The silver was leadbelcher washed with nuln oil and highlighted with necron compound
The black gun casing was abbadon black dry brushed with necron compound to hilight and weather it
The fur was mornfang brown washed with agrax earthshade and drybrushed with skrag brown
The hair was scrag brown washed with agrax earthshade and highlighted with jokaero orange.
the skin was bugman's glow layered with cadian fleshtone and a recess was of reikland flesh shade.

I apologize for my lack of activity this week, I have actually got a lot done since the last update but due to lack of time I have been unable to post any pics but so you know what's to come I now have the terminators, land raider, 2nd rhino and two more veteran tactial marines built and ready for painting.

uugh it's been too long since I last updated this, I've been to busy with new stuff (wulfen) to get any photos done, I hope to get time tomorrow to take some though.

well, I figured it's time for an update seeing as I haven't posted in quite some time, admittedly I have been rather slow with any progress lately however I do have a few shiny new things to share.

first up is my new vigilator made from the anniversary marine, as soon as I saw him I knew I had to include him in my 30k army somehow and I feel he fits the bill as a vigilator what with the snazzy gun and all.

like the previous marine I painted I have gone for heavy weathering with the drybrush and a minimal colour scheme to make sure he isn't too gaudy, these pics are slightly outdated as the base is unfinished here (the agrellan earth is now painted over to look like cracked ice).

I also had the pleasure of attending warhammer fest last weekend and picked up a few bits while there as well as seeing the gorgeous new transfers for the vlka fenryka and instantly deciding that I NEED THEM!! needless to say not all my minis are going to have furs on shoulder pads now as the transfers have unit markings on them, that's not to say that I'm giving up on furs though, I will probably still be adding them to other parts of the models as I plan to use them to denote which squad a model belongs to. anyway on with the pics!

while there I picked up the mark IV techmarine (as I much prefer it to the mark III, the axe and pistol look much better) to sit at the back repairing my tanks, with a particular one in mind.....


In case you cant tell from my upside down images I also picked up a cerberus heavy tank destroyer for my army which will be accompanied by the techmarine, I plan on getting it built this week and should hopefully have pics up by the weekend, I also plan on adding plenty of furs and iconography to this to make it as unique as possible.
for the theme of my army I have gone down the route of a (mostly) mechanised force based around causing as much collateral damage as possible and burn worlds in it's wake as it seemed pretty fitting for the emperor's executioners after listening to prospero burns and a thousand sons. all I need to add now are some servitors for my techmarine, a couple of vindicators (the gw ones as I prefer the design and they are much cheaper, yes they did exist then but were rarer) and two units of 20 tactical marines and I'll be done for now....

Time for a big update after a long break.
The contemptor is now finished and here it is. (The base isn't finished yet however as the cracked earth will be turned into cracked ice like the rest of my wolves)

I have also been working on another dread but this one is not a contemptor

This pic is a bit outdated as the leviathan is now basecoated, washed and dry brushed and is just waiting for me to do the metals and other details. Again more angles can be found in my gallery, I look forward to some feedback.

I am really not a 40k SW fan, but I am loving the Wolves from 30k. Like the subtle use of the SW iconography on the models, not overtly done.

Paint looks good, the Contemptor pictures look a bit grainy. Interested in seeing the complete paint Leviathan.

Yes, I do apologise about the picture quality, unfortunately they were the best I could get given the time I had. Once the base is done I'll try and get some more. I currently have a vindicator in the works, so that will likely be the next thing I get done as I'm hoping to try out some of the larger transfers asap as the little ones look great.

Time for another update!
I have finally finished the first of my vindicator and I must admit, I'm pretty pleased with it. Here are the pics!





The hazard stripes were a bit of a challenge at first but once I had worked out how to do it they were pretty easy to do. I'm also very pleased with how the transfers turned out, they look great in person! What's more no fancy products were used, just gloss varnish and medium. As always constructive comments are always appreciated.
