So, my wife has strongly insinuated I shouldn't buy any more 40k until I've painted what i already own.

I've never been too fussed with the painting side of the hobby - partially because of it being quite time consuming, but mostly because of my own personal unhappiness with my abilities.
So, I've challenged myself to do one thing this year - PAINT ALL THE THINGS.

And what better way to motivate myself, and collect criticism and advice than blogging it here?

Here's a nice sample of what awaits me - the top 4 trays of my citadel case.

There's a half full tray below that, and also elsewhere, in various states of semi-construction are (roughly)
- 1 Night Scythe
- 2 Annihilation Barges
- 1 Ghost Ark
- 1 Box Tempestus Scions
- 1 BA Tactical Marines Kit
- 1 BA Assault Terminators Kit
- 2 Attack Bikes
- 1 Furioso Dreadnought
- 1 Drop Pod
- 1 Canoptek Spider
- 1 BA Terminator Librarian
- 1 Tomb Blades Kit
- Skaven for Mordheim

I'm not aiming to achieve 'Eavy Metal standards, nor even the standard of the majority of the talented folks that inhabit these forums, all I'm after is reaching a decent, attractive tabletop quality - As I mentioned above, It's not my favourite part of the hobby, I much prefer the kitbashing/modelling side, and the gaming.

I've got a long journey ahead of me, and look forward to your critique and hopefully some compliments.

Here is the current state of my Blood Angels - a selection of some of my kitbashed models, and the couple of almost finished miniatures.

Tycho

Never liked the official Tycho model, even back in 2nd edition - so I built my own

My friends and I tried out Inquisimunda, and in this I ended up with 3 warbands - Dark Eldar Raiders, Rogue Traders and Kroot Savages.

My first plan is to touch up and finish the Assault marines that I've started already - I think I dislike the half finished models more than the ones I haven't started yet.

To follow I'm eyeing up painting a squad of Necron Immortals, or BA Scouts. Both would need paint schemes figured out - Do the wonderful people here have a preference for Necrons of Blood Angels?

I'll definitely be trying to mix up my projects, hopefully it should be able to keep me engaged enough to make it to the end!

lookin' good so far, I feel you on the work load though One tip: I can't tell by the pictures, but looking at the blood angels only: Wash a bit more heavily? from the pics they seem pretty flat.

Since metals are easier then reds, I'd go through and chug through your necrons, and get that project out of the way. Use some blood angels as "rewards" for finishing squads in order to break up the monotony. Best of luck

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Good luck with the challenge

looks like you have a good eye for colour and a steady hand with the paintbrush, what you've done so far is easily tabletop quality and not to be ashamed of.

Throw a wash on them and maybe a bit of a highlight colour and you'll be up there with the top 25% of painters.

A noble and worthy goal. One that I should follow myself! I have slowed down on my miniature wargame purchases....but have been slowly acquiring miniature-based board games (Zombicide, Impreial Assault, etc) over the past few years that need their minis painted badly! I need to resurrect my pblog and start holding myself accountable as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: washes

The BA are Mephiston Red washed with Carroburg Crimson - I probably can go a bit heavier so it falls into the recesses a bit more.
I've noticed people seem to have a massive love for using Agrax Earthshade on pretty much everything, and I might try a test model using that as a wash, hopefully the darker colour willstand out a bit more than the more subtle red shading.

A very eclectic array of models you have going on there, best of luck in your endeavours
