Alright guys I've just finished fleshing out the background fluff for my homebrew AM regiment and as they come from an ice world I was wandering if anyone knows of any videos or tutorials on how to paint artic camoflauge as I have done a quick google search and can't really find anything :/

Thanks in advance

I'm looking at doing something similar for a (currently pipe-dream) Tau army. I rather like the look of the Fallout Hobbies stencils, but requires an airbrush...

It really depends what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to have the model look covered in snow or actually have a Camo pattern for arctic locations?

If you are looking for camo patterns, the easiest way yo do this is to paint whatever it is you want the base coat color to be, then use plastic tacky putty to mask off the area you want to keep that color in a camo pattern and then paint the rest the other color. You can also do this free hand with may colors as well.

There is a couple of pages on how to do this in the Citadel "How to Paint Miniatures" book that comes with a DVD.

I would also check on military model sites to model aircraft sites.

Just found this, but not arctic themed. Hope it helps.

I wasn't really thinking of camo patterns to begin with, lthough looking through a few of them in the links I may have to consider it now but this is more what I was after.

Thanks for the replies so far, definitely given me a few alternatives to think about, including buying an airbrush

Check this out. It might be more help with what you want to do.

Rather than toothpaste as a masking agent, you can use liquid latex, but it will ruin your brush, so use an old one!

Not the best, but the easy out I did:

Base white.
Add dashes of pale blue and light grey
Done.

Non camo things (hard armor, leathers) done in pale colors, so not to clash

Accents done in bright colors, because real camouflage is incredibly boring to look at. Also, in my case the red ties in with my main army palette.

If you're referring to Arctic themed bases then you should try baking powder and pva overbushing

Andy: I was literally just watching a tutorial on how to do snow bases, is there anything else I can use instead of bycarb though like a form of modelling snow for model railways maybe?

Md: That link was very helpful. Going to be needing all the help I can get as I haven't done any modelling or painting in over 12 years so thank you

Nevelon: Loving that camo on the cloak, might have to borrow it for the camo cloaks on my snipers

I've used corn flour (corn starch for our American cousins) with PVA, works nicely because it's so fine grained

I'm sure there probably is but few as cheap, easily sourced and capable of providing satisfactory results.

There's always snow flock, or citadels mournfang mountain texture paint

Whilst not really a tutorial, have a look at this winter themed Traitor Guard army, a commission recently posted by Awaken Realms, for some inspiration.

It appears to be a pretty simple to do - I would guess that it's undercoated black with white/light grey airbrushed zenithal highlights to achieve natural shadowing, use a dark grey/black glaze in the armour recesses, then a black wash over the fatigues. Add chipping and weathering and you're done.
