Whoa, very interesting! Will definitely be watching this one . Hope to see more casts soon (one is at the bottom of this post)

LANDS OF RUIN KICKSTARTER STARTS 19TH OF FEBRUARY
We are nearly ready! The Lands of Ruin Kickstarter will launch on the 19th of February!

To get notified immediately when the campaign goes live you can subscribe to our Kickstarter mailing list (no spam).

With the Kickstarter campaign, we will produce a line of high quality, resin cast 28mm scale miniatures. These 3D sculpts were created by an amazing Romanian sculptor Silvaticus.

The range of miniatures consists of 6 hero characters. Each hero is accompanied by 3 cohorts. Players will build their own tribes with any combination of heros by unlocking them to their account. To play the game players will choose (usually) 2 or more heroes from their tribe for a battle and fill in the rest of the team from the cohorts of the selected heroes.

First two pics below seem to show the two larger "tribes", and then the following pics show each individual hero with 3 cohorts, which together make up the tribes. Here are the two larger tribe pics:

RECLAIMERS

BALEANS

And then the hero + 3 cohort pics:

LACONIDES

ACHILLES

DORIAN

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MULCIBUR

ANDROPHAGE

THANATOS

CASTING PROCESS

We're currently working with a manufacturing partner to get first of these models cast and into hands of our painters and for others to review.

More pictures of the cast minis coming soon!

And from Facebook:

Draft rulebook - seems to involve a lot of "rotter" NPCs that are controlled via an android / iOS app:

There is now an ambassador program for Lands of Ruin

"The Land of Ruin Ambassador Program is a way for us to support, reward and recognise the work our community does helping new players to get started with Lands of Ruin.We are still working to form the exact details of the program, but the goal is to find ways to reward the most active Ambassadors, as well as allow us to directly support the community and any individuals wanting to introduce their local community to Lands of Ruin."

"To join the Ambassador program, start by filling out in the Lands of Ambassador Program Registration form or email Juhani directly at juhani@landsofruin.com. We will get back to you ASAP!"

Latest blog update going into detail on the Reclaimers character Achilles

"Swift-footed Achilles, as he was referred to in the Homeric Epics, proved to be an apt name for the Reclaimer’s best reconnaissance scout and sniper. He is fast and silent in his maneuvers, and deadly accurate with his rifle"

"Achilles is at his best in long distant support role. His sniper rifle, once deployed, is devastating weapon picking out opponent's high value targets."

"The cohort of Achilles plays a support role in his operations. High quality sniper rifles are hard to come by so most of the Achilles' support squad is usually equipped with weapons more suitable to close support role."

I have to say this is almost a certain backing from me. I've been leary of a lot of tech integration in board games lately, but the way that this is handled sounds very nicely done. That, plus the models look incredible.

The other guys unfortunately look just like many other manufacturers sci-fi offerings. The Baleans have much more character and are much more unique.

Achilles is the only one of the reclaimers that I like that look of, and his companions let him down IMO.

Looks very interesting, good spot Timmy ! "Timmmehhh!"

Like the concept of the small miniature numbers and the AI controlled enemies sounds intriguing.

I have to agree mostly that the Reclaimers are a bit "generic" and "boringly" posed but i like Achilles and his followers, for the characters class and role the followers pose are just right,

Gone in for an XL pledge as the models are too cool to choose between. I love how well the digital element has been integrated, absolutely not tacked on at all and a real stand out feature for sure.

Lands Of Ruin is now live on Kickstarter

It will be running for the next 18 days

I have been following this one closely as I am liking the idea of the tablet taking care of the mundane tasks during gameplay, I have downloaded the "beta" version of the command app and it seems fairly easy to use and navigate around it. I have not yet tried a full 2 player game yet, but will hopefully sometime this week.

The renders of the miniatures look outstanding especially the Baleans, I could imagine they would be good for a number of games systems outside of Lands Of Ruin, as would the Reclaimers

Just like you could use the Lands Of Ruin miniatures with other systems, you can use any mini you own already and make your own heroes and cohorts

There are a variety of pledges on offer, ranging from just £17EB/£19 Digital Pack – £80EB/£95 XL Miniatures Pack – £450 Lifetime Benefactor, with a few pledges inbetween.

"Lands of Ruin is a post-apocalypse tabletop wargame. However, it is not just another run-of-the-mill clone of every other game on the market. This next generation tabletop game utilises the recent advances in mobile technology to bring a more realistic, faster paced, and deeper gaming experience to the already mature tabletop wargaming genre."*

"The battlefield is not empty. Players' tribes confront remnants of the final war in the form of automated drones, decaying battle mechs still executing their wartime orders, and hordes of infected dead, all controlled by the companion app's A.I."*

"Previously in wargaming, hidden characters and secret actions were not so hidden or secret. Minis had to be placed on the tabletop, and secret actions declared in order to keep things fair. LoR allows players to have hidden characters in play without their opponents knowing they are there, as well as perform actions that the opponent doesn't know about. Imagine a hidden sniper waiting to ambush the opponent. This is all tracked and kept fair through the Command Console tablet app."*

"Characters gain experience and skills as well as obtain new equipment during battles."*

"In Lands of Ruin, the wastelands are populated by tribes. These unique and diverse cultures represent the different factions or alignments players join when they play the game. Each tribe has its own beliefs and goals, as well as fighting style and technologies."*

"Lands of Ruin is fully playable with just two heroes and their cohorts. However, adding more heroes to your tribe adds variety to the gameplay."*

Welp. I was right about the juicy early bird but it got snapped up before I could get to them. The 2 and 4 hero pledges are great though I think. Plenty of value for not a lot of dosh.

I have a bad feeling about those words "unlocked to your account" though. the last thing I want is a miniatures game plagued by microtransactions. The very thought makes me shudder with fear. I know that payment model can make a lot of money very quickly but this game could be a great idea for a long term plan and I dont want to see it ruined by the greedy, easy cash grab and dump (after all you get to keep more of the profits if you dont support your product after launch right?) I'm really pulling for this one. Especially after the announced end of Golem Arcana.

Lands of Ruin could be one small step for "6th Extinction" and one giant leap for hybrid gaming. They just have to deliver what they already promised.

I don't see any evidence to expect micro-transactions. What's been shown is that when you buy the models you automatically get the digital rules component to go with them. And that these are also available separately for those who don't want to buy the models (which makes sense given the cost of the app dev investment).
