So far I have always painted the trim of my miniature bases to be brown as I think it goes well for majority of fantasy scenery and is also a rather muted color that blends within its surroundings. As I have collected more models from different brands/games, I am leaning toward a different color scheme (maybe gray) for science fiction models as that might blend better with with modern/futuristic urban scenery.

I would like to hear what color everyone else has chosen for the base trim of their miniatures and their reason for it.

It depends on the base and game I'm playing.

I have Steel Legion Drab on my 40k models. green or brown for my Blood Bowl figures. Black for Space Crusade and also my sci-fi scenic bases.

I was going to do grey edge on my Necromunda gang until I got the scenic bases.

My thinking is much the same as yours, my 40k board is desert style, Blood Bowl pitch is grass and mud, necromunda is urban sci-fi, it just depends on the setting

I want my Orks to look like they are fighting on a glacier, so I do a sparkling blue ice base with a dark gray rim.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I actually do squadwise.

Each of my SW squads have their own colour: GH 1 and 2 are red and yellow. Both their base and shoulder pad trims are red/yellow.

HQ's and Dreads are dark blue.

Usually they're black, but my recent undivided chaos have ultramarine blue edges, which complements the light blue/bone armour nicely.

My oldest models were trimmed different colors for each squad. Then I went to dark metallic copper, then black for a long while (10+ years).

Relatively recently, I do the GW 40k thing of Steel Legion Drab (brown).

The steel legion works with a lot of base types but not all. It is really up to how you base your models etc.

I voted black. It’s slimming and goes with everything.

But in my heart, bases should be Goblin Green and flocked.

I do Eshin Grey on all my base rims, AoS and 40k - looks great on both and means some miniatures can be used for games set in both universes.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

whatever goes with my army theme

My Skaven are done in mostly a sewer brown (I'm still redoing some bases). My son's VC we haven't actually decided on but it's looking like purple. RPG figures I stopped basing on anything other than a clear base (great to see the game grid/map through). I did my other son's Necrons with a blue grey to match the snow/ice world idea. My new Luna Wolves I'm basing with a black trim, as it matches really well their colours.

it depends upon the color scheme of the model and the base.

I try to pick either a complimentary color, or a contrasting color, depending on if the model "matches" the base, or competes with it.

For example, my tau are a desert theme (NOT the gw theme) and I use a light base rim color. My nids are browns, reds and green - i use a muddy tan color, with a hint of green in it for their bases.

My marines are an urban camo, with a lot of blue tones - on concrete colors bases - I use black rim bases as it really shows off the mini.

Read a few things about color theory, and maybe pick up a color wheel. If you have a friend who is an artist, they can help.
(my wife is an art major, she helped pick out my base colors....).

best of luck!
