Here's a new project that I am working on. A tyranid army painted with only washes using as few base and highlight paints as possible.

Here is my first attempt. What do you guys think?

Hello "El cheapodaca"!

I believe you could add a few more highlights to your beast :3 (like on the skin and carapace)

Also, considering that is one of the bigger creatures, using a bit more than just washes might be a good idea.

Sticking with your theme if you held the minis upside down and did layers of washes on the carapace (drying in between each) having it lighten as you got closer to the edge of each plate it could look really cool.

He's looking pretty good but I think you probably will have to give him a couple of highlights on his carapace. The skin I reckon you can get away with leaving as it is, but the carapace would benefit massively from a bit of 'feathering'. The GW Nid tutorial on YouTube is pretty awesome if you need any inspiration

I did another one. I took Eldarians advice and attempted to do several layers of washes to differentiate the edges. What do you think?

They look good!

I have found that painting with washes only can be fast but the wash is far less resilient than paint (before a varnish is applied) so even some light handling can cause the wash to wear off of edges.

Also brush on varnish sometimes seems to pickup pigment from the wash, I'm not sure why. But spray varnishing is fine, subject to the usual risk of frosting.

Looking good! An entire swarm of those gribblies would look fantastic on the tabletop and, with your speedier method of painting, that will likely be sooner rather than later.

My own Nid scheme was similar but I had a fussy feathering technique on the carapace and tried to do too much with the fleshy areas as well. I ended up giving up halfway through, so there is definitely a lot to be said for a simpler scheme!

Shred City.

Real good man, and tbh the basic technique in the first post would be more than enough for the masses of gaunts.

A little more color is fine with the larger mobs, and the Zillas will of course need adequate attention.
