Looks good, but to be honest I would have left out the dots; they may be realistic, but they make the model look too "busy" and actually obscure the detail.

The point of camo in real life is to break up the form of a figure and make it hard to see what you're looking at, the point of painting a miniature is to make it look good and enhance the forms to make them clearer. The goals are in some ways exact opposites; painting camo models that look really good is therefore somewhat challenging (I've dabbled and had mixed results).

I have to agree, in fact "busy" was the exact word I used on Battlefronts home site forum. That said I originally had a couple of options .One was to make only a handful of dots as a representation of the pattern which I didn't really like myself, the other was to make the model lighter as in the yellow/sand base colour as most in 15mm always appear way to dark or over brown to me which hides the detail. I tried a work around,

These originally had no green dots on the yellow which I thought looked better in 15mm & gave the eye more appeal but you know sometimes when you have an itch that just needs scratching? It just eats away at you until finally you give in?....I just couldn't leave it alone, anyway, I see your point, I agree with it, but sometimes you just have to scratch-)

Makes sense, it's good to try different things even if they don't always work out quite right.

The new camo scheme looks much better. What exactly did you change? I can't put my finger on it, it just looks more subtle.

...several things actually, first I dropped the number of dots & also managed to get them smaller, next I was very sparse on the green dots over the yellow. This lets the eye pick out the yellow areas a lot easier. I also adjusted the yellow modulation & paid particular attention to corners to help 'frame' the overall shape.

I also changed the ratio of green/brown to have more brown & I actually changed the colour brown I use too. I then spent a lot more time on the tracks & did a complete reversal on traditional methods of having the running gear darker & hull/turret lighter by making the running gear also light..

If you look at the 3rd photo down at the front left Panthers track you can see how it's in shadow towards the chassis & underneath the hull plate & lighter with rust in the exposed areas, that's paint. Things like that help define the overall shape & make it easier to look at & hopefully more pleasing.

Anyway I'm finally happy with them now but there are more in the box to do (lucky me) but they will be in a completely different pattern, along with some Mobelwagens & IV/70 (V) & a Bergepanther too.

Oh....& I also made the background white;-)

Funny how sometimes the small details can make a big difference.

You know, despite how it looks the "dots" are actually quite good at doing what they're supposed to be doing: breaking up the outline and camouflaging the tank. The very first models at the top of this thread just seem to blend together and into the background. And that's on a hardwood tabletop. I can't imagine being hundreds or thousands of feet in the air, looking through a bombsight trying to spot those tanks hull down in some brush and dead grass. It would be impossible!

Jabo's (German nickname for allied ground attack aircraft) would typically be at tree top height to a few hundred feet when hunting in Normandy but their wings of course would restrict visibility & then their rapid speed (a counter measure against the disadvantage of being that low) would both make it so dam hard to spot. Apparently the dots in German thinking represent sunlight through a tree canopy & I personally think it is the second most effective vehicle pattern ever, only second to that of modern digital....oh & then there's the whole 'it just looks awesome thing too...trust the Germans:-)

I am glad you like them, nice to hear. Ironically I don't play this either,..(yet) I'm just starting off building up a table with detailed scenery & a unit to use, do not have a clue how to play yet:-)

SixT4Pixels ...Me too, thanks

FeindusMaximus Lol, I only have 6 in total :-) the first 2 shots were repainted & form part of the six others. I read ages ago somewhere that 162 served in the west with 120 on the eastern front. Those numbers are very subjective as every article seems to quote a different total but it's a good ball park figure, so my 6 would be roughly 4% of those that served in the west. I think you may be thinking of 'Jagdtigers' instead?

Glad you repainted the first two Jagdpanthers - the second scheme's by far the best (imho). How big's the army going to end up?

Really nice work.

...I'm not sure exactly, I keep seeing great deals around & buy them because I like to paint or the deal also comes with some extra bits and pieces. All I know for sure is I will paint each unit a different pattern depending on what I like the look of. The first 2 jagdpanthers are from the 9th SS while the others were inspired by Rudy Meir's 1/35 jagdpanther diorama, but I have no idea what unit they are from.

Next up some StuG's
