Beautiful! I've got a couple sets of the old GW Osgiliath ruins, but your stuff is much better looking.

Superb! Will you be doing any more, or was it a one-off?

I will finish judgedoug's set in this same theme/scheme and then move on to my own set. I haven't decided what exactly to do with my set. I'll keep the thread updated as a I go.

Lovely work! Really like the contrast you've got going on on your stone work.

Okay, I'm just going to come out and say that you are making it very difficult for me to steal this idea if i don't know how you made those floor tiles.

Thanks very much, DaBoss. I put a ton of effort into the stone but the pictures wash out a lot of the color. There is actually a good bit of depth to them. I started with red brown primer, put down an ochre yellow base coat, followed by a coat of ivory. I used Vallejo European Dust wash, which is an ashy brownish grey. From there, I did a first pass at drybrushing highlights, then drybrushing successively lighter shades of green for a living moss effect, and a final lightened ivory drybrush to tie it back together.

Commodus Leitdorf, those tiles are cast with Hirst Arts molds. And not by me, no sir! I don't have the space to go down the casting rabbit hole. These were cast in hydrostone by a fellow in Hawaii and you can buy them from him on ebay.

Aw Yiiiis I just checked out his store. I promised I wouldn't spend anymore money on minis until I finish painting what I have, but I made no such promise for terrain pieces.

Thanks! Unlike the last one (which had a nonsensically wooden floor), I will put the second-level floor pieces on this one ... although I am not sure how anyone is supposed to get up there ... Perhaps I ought to make a ladder out of the sprue?

A ladder would work, or just a pile of rubble or two that can be climbed at half speed (eg difficult terrain)?

Great work Manchu. As DaBoss said your stone colour is really superb. Thanks for the little guide on how you did it too. Looking forward to seeing the second set

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

What exactly are those floor tile pieces? I don't think I've seen those before.

Thanks. You took something very plain and made it look very interesting.

Ah cheers but both GW's plastic kit and the Hirst tiles are pretty nice components. I'd highly recommend them. And the Ruins of Osgiliath set seems to be up for reprint now.

Absolutely beautiful. I'm in the slow process of going trough the whole saga step by step and the Osgiliath and Minas Tirith pieces in the source books seem really bland compared to the other terrain making tutorials in the whole saga. Thanks for sharing a good tutorial, i'll certainly be imitating your work rather than the ones in the book.

BTW that bigger ruin piece in the second set you've posted, do you play the bigger door so that 40mm cavalry base can go through it and normal infantry can pass through the smaller door to its right? I've played it so that both can pass from their respective doors.

We have not used the second piece - I still have not finished it! But yeah that sounds right to me. I would say the larger door would count as difficult terrain for a troll, maybe.
