Hi there!

I finally made up my mind and I have an army of Chaos Deamons coming at my doorstep any time soon!

Mostly is a Nurgle + Khorne. For now
I already had some plaguebearers and some houds, now i got Blighknights (as beasts of nurgle), more dogs (15 now), a Fat papa Nurgle from FW (best mini ever IMHO), a prince and herald of Nurgle from FW,some bloodletters,6 Skullcrushers, a cannon of khorne, and I am on my way to buying some drones and nurglins.
I will play them mostly 40k, but I am really digging the 9th ed of the fantasy and i might make some tray for it.

I did a test plaguebearer a while ago and i really love it, as soon i get home i will post a pic of him, aint done yet, but close enough. graphically is light green and i will add some black particular to the end (random hands, horns and feet). The bloodletters and all khorne will be fluffy wise red, bronze and SKUUUUUUUUUULLLS!!!!!!
I will base brown with AB and than build up a light sick green for nurgle and a strong red for Khorne.
Nurgle will have some patches of white or black, Khorne light brown.
Than wash and drybrush on both.
The schema is pretty simple, i will do however some detailed work to make every model unique in his way. This is my 4th army to be painted, I got some experience

What buggers me is the choice of bases so far.
I would love a swamp theme for Nurgle and a lava one for Khorne; but i wonder if woulndt destroy the visual cohesion of the army.
The rim will be black or astronomicusmygodwhatwasthename grey for all of them, keeping some sort of unity.
However I love the idea of monolists, even if not playable competitive, and the fact that each God is pretty much despising all the others.
How did you guys managed to paint your deamons army?
What would be a good artistic solution?

As always, thanks for your time and tips. You guys rock.
Peace

I... actually don't know. Help?

I would suggest making the bases similar but with a few differences. Say you choose to have a grassy fields look, try to splash lots of blood/ash on the Khorne ones and lots of slime and rotten parts on the Nurgle ones while keeping some of the grass visible.

Could you not have both using some sort of ashen black wasteland for the base, but build either some swamp or lava detail for the respective daemons?

Could be just enough to tie them together?

So, i made 2 mock up, one for a nurgle base and one for khorne, I might add a bit more slush to nurgle to champions and special caracther and definitely some skulls to khorne. I am pretty please and i think the bases are a good compromise between speed and result. The lava one I think I can be better.
I would prefer to avoid space rubble as I am pretty sure I will buy round tray to play some 9th ed.
Below there is a simple plagubearer I made some time ago, nothing fancy, but I like it very much. Still I think I can push the details and personalization a bit further.

One side note, the cork is pretty annoying to drybrush, am I too strong or my cork is bad ^_^ ?
Peace

I feel that style of base kinda adds way too much contrast to the model its nice you can easily tell if its Corn or Nurgle but it might be way to easy.

I feel like doing something along the line of line crack lava for the Korn as to have it look like ground still just burn and on fire, and the nurgle side to have trails of unspeakable horror where they walk.

I think i know what you mean, is already a mess with the different paint scheme between the Gods. I'll try to come out with something simpler

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Go for a yellow base; could be diseased slime of Nurgle by using a pus yellow, or firey lava/acid for K-dog using a brighter yellow.

Then you get a more cohesive look but still distinguish between gods.
