So, officially snagged a ticket. I'm just a casual gamer these days, fell off after 5th edition and definitely miss my Wraith Wing with Flayed ones in this edition. But eh, new start, new (harder) army. I have everything primed, will post pics after work. Going to be doing by some hardcore painting to get army ready in time, even though it's just to have fun this year.

The breakdown:

The Forgehost only allows re rolls of to hit and wound, not armor penetration when a model is successfully wounded. So the strategy is to pop vehicle transports asap, with the first soul grinder always targeting an easy kill unit.

herald of Slaanesh goes with the fiends, the Seekers target exposed units within charge range turn 2. The plan is to have the seekers come in from outflank reserve, in addition to the fiends with the grimoire herald against certain heavy dakka builds. (Sm BC) The locus of Beguilement herald not only allows everyone in the unit to re roll failed to hit rolls, but is also an assassin, forcing a challenge on the character I want and he can't back out. This is perfect to take out enemy Psykers with low defense.

Herald of Khorne has the Crimson Crown giving all Khorne daemons within 8" +1 attack, and he takes the new warlord of Khorne trait from the Wulfen book. Second herald has 2x lesser rewards to get an axe of Khorne and something else. The locus of fury will give me an additional +2 attack with rage. Crimson Herald is my warlord so will almost always outflank thanks to Khorne dogs scout rule allows them to also outflank. Against almost every shooting army I will probably reserve his unit. Wrath gives his unit hatred, so base of 7 str. 6 attacks that decapitate on a six, and 8 Khorne dogs with 5 str 5 attacks on the charge. I feel he will survive a lot longer than a Bloodthirster, so no FMC for my list( and very low psyker lvl) in exchange for 14 potential ap 2 instant death chances on a charge. Re roll misses because of locus of wrath first round.

Plague drones without feel no pain: I always like to play hard, hit fast, and keep my fingers crossed. Plague drones punch is mediocre, but Fiends subtract 5 from initiative. Combine that with venom sting, allowing one poisoned attack to inflict instant death, and a plaguebringer with 4 attacks with ap 2 and poison from a ethereal blade. I was very tempted to take a Nurgle herald for FNP but in the end, a Forgehost would put out more damage, plus would slow down the unit. If anyone reading this is considering the 7 unit plague drone/ beasts formation, it would be a very interesting army.

Edit: changing it to 3 plague drones with venom sting only, added 3 more fiends of Slaanesh.



A few minor changes seems to make my army a little harder hitting. Without any FMC, I'm going to have to try to get my Soul Grinders upfield a bit faster so am going to try to keep my Slaanesh bearer alive long enough for 2+ Grinders to arrive via deep strike. Also swapped second Khorne herald for a herald of Nurgle to get exalted reward( grimoire) and get FNP on the drones to make it more survivable. The 2 main psychic powers I try to get should be invisibility and eternal warrior with FNP giving me 1/3 odds of rolling what I need (2/6 chance on each psychic discipline)

I managed to scavenge enough Kantor Blue watered down to get the base color for my snow bases started before work. Once I get the 3 basic colors on each model I can finally focus on each squad.

So, at first I thought I would have to add putty for my customized counts as fiends of Slaanesh, however the BRB stated tails and wings not used for line of sight. I made a pretty good estimate using the lizard man Saurus cavalry. I will probably need to continually remind my opponent that my cavalry on beast bases are beasts. I predicted the scale of the figures after jumping in blindly and hoping I had the right scale. In the future, always will order one model for scale before investing time on a possible conversion match.

Looks like you've made a good start to an ambitious project. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Except the soul grinders, my army now has the 3 base colors needed to qualify in any future tournaments, I can now focus on painting each individual squad. I got the day off from work since its Wrestlemania so let's see how far I can get with about 12 hours of free time. It's 9 am California time, will post pics when I take a breather. It's marathon time!

Great news about it being tournament ready. Looking forward to seeing squads full completed.

Lunch break! Before GW released their new paint line, in 2012 I painted up a greater daemon I converted. I spent so much time having to mix paints to get a close enough highlight. Their new line of paints is so much easier to apply, and their layering paint really blends with the previous color with just a little watering down instead of mixing one use only paints. Started with stegadon scale green, caledor Sky, hoeth blue, and then shaded with seraphim sepia. It looks a bit Nurgle for now, but I'm going back over it with hoeth blue and highlight the skin with fenrisian grey once the ink dries. Also 3 colors on all 3 grinders! But as The Rock says when feeling tired: FOCUS!. The minute I get distracted is a minute more I'm going to have to spend on painting. Being a casual painter, and gamer this is probably the hardest project I will ever do, since I want a completely painted army. Will post Next update when all 3 grinders are fully completed.

This is taking a little longer than expected to complete all 3. New paints layering on right vs old paints on left had to do about 10 coats.

This soul grinder creator was originally Nurgle that I bought off of eBay. Epoxy is a lot harder to paint smoothly on, and honestly this is the hardest model I have ever had to paint. A lot of detail, so I will retract later when I have more time but it is ready for matte varnish.

Base colors and dry brush of "real" grinders complete, highlighting begins matte varnish done. Also, read up more on the rule book at work so forced a list change. Biomancy/telepathy needed since 3 armor 12 shield generators may not be enough against those silly, highly mobile Eldar. And...lets make my grinders even harder to kill. Also, if you guys like watching 40k parodies check out Bruva Alfabusa on YouTube. If the emperor had a text to speech device and his short films are really entertaining if you're a fanboy like me.

Nice work on the Soil Grinder.

Shield generators arrived in the mail Friday but I was stuck doing 3 12 hour shifts at work. Moving in July to new house so finally had time to sit down and start the generators. Frontline Gaming did an incredible job with this design! Not only do the pieces punch out like butter, there appears to be almost no mold lines to fix! Worth every penny, this is what GW needs to do something similar with their kits. Yes, the terrain is not as detailed as GW figures, but this is probably the most satisfying kit I have bought. I already was painting all armor purple before prince died so I think I'll keep up the Deep Purple colors.
