I have a pre loved ogre army with my seeking to add some new men to it. The old minaiatures have been painted using a wash.

Looking at the minatures I am not sure whether the wash has been applied correctly (in that it appears to have perhaps been laid on excessively). I am not sure about whether this is the case or whether the effect is intentional (in that it gives the men a grubby look which may be appropriate for ogres).

What do you think? Wanted some feedback on the style before replicating it with my newer unpainted miniatures.

need better pics but it does appear blotchy from the wash settling in pools randomly? again hard to say with pics. you know you dont actually need to use washes. you can water down other colors. thats how i do it. if your goal is to shade cracks/creases muscle etc that works

the 2nd pic kinda looks good. so hard to say and the picture is a tint that further obscures the color

You can allways apply a layer of paint over the wash to cover parts you don't want to be shaded, the skin on the second mini looks okay though

It could've been 'dipped' too... in either case, you can still paint over it.

The newest citadel washes, I have to say, are just fantastic and even the sloppiest application will have decent results.
