I got on ebay and picked up a pair of the cutest little evil ball n' chain bringers of death and destruction. My question is why are they so big compared to my plastic night goblins? Did GW use a different scale back in the day or are these knockoffs from a competitor?

Those are not knock offs. They are official Games Workshop models.

Thanks. I thought GW stopped using pewter years ago so I wasn't expecting to find anything on their site other than the plastic fanatics.

In general GW models have been getting bigger and bigger over the years. Night Goblins are one of the few exceptions. The old Night Goblin models were sized similarly to Common Goblins, but a few years back they were shrunken. If I'm remembering my editions correctly, from 4th to 5th edition they grew significantly (which is the time those metal Fanatics were released) and then I think it was 7th edition when they got shrunken again.

It probably depends on the yearly 'shroom crop, obviously the last few years have been a terrible time and the crops have suffered!
(somehow this made this song start running through my head lol

Yeah, the previous kit of Night Goblins had separate heads, arms, torsos and legs, and was scaled to match the other goblins. Great for mixing and matching bits, and even for making 40K grot gun crew

The current kit is terrible IMHO - smaller scale (for no good reason) and almost no customisation possible.

I actually prefer the newer Night Goblins in general. The old ones were way too big for my liking and the heads were huge compared to the bodies. The newer ones still have separate arms, but the head/torso/legs is one piece.... worse for conversions, but IMO they look better, and when you are painting 200 of the little bastards not being able to pose individual heads didn't really bother me

I was always hoping they'd remake the Common Goblins to be more in line with the Night Goblins.

I do prefer the older Fanatics because they look like they have more character than the current Fanatics, but they are worse to game with because of being metal they are very unbalanced and fall over all the time and I'm more paranoid trying to transport them.
