Wishing I was in the euro world this weekend, but posting some videos they've been doing from the South Coast Grand Tournament so I can live vicariously.

About 140 AoS players, GW is there and posting photos to their Facebook. It's run by the Heelan Hammer and Facehammer guys.

Edit:

Sunday Round 5:

Sunday Round 4:

Painting Competition:

Friday wrap-up:

Saturday Intro:

Saturday Round 1:

Saturday Round 2:

Saturday Round 3:

Saturday wrap-up video:

Lots of photos on Twitter #SCGT2016 or Facebook South Coast Grand Tournament.

One of my favourite parts of this is the guy whose whole army is 5 Stardrakes and Celestant Prime!

Looks like people had a lot of fun and there wasn't any major powergaming issue, good to see! I'm glad that a -comped- AoS is getting some major attendance and coverage, a good message that it can work.

I have been loving the coverage so far! This has definitely sold me on tournaments and I am going to try and be there next year!

That Fateweaver and Thanquol combination sounds really nasty.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I think your models need to be shown off in a painting competition, Bottle!

Updated OP with Round 4 and Painting Comp videos.

Thanks for posting the videos and photographs.

Love the coverage. I like large armies for photographs and dioramas. I actually prefer to play with smaller armies though (about 1/3 of what they are playing with would be my preference).

I took a look at the army lists, interesting combinations.
http://www.heelanhammer.com/SCGTdownloads/SCGT16Lists.pdf

One thing I noticed about the Khorne Bloodbound armies, only 1/3 of them took blood reavers, most people wanted more elite troops than that.

@Coldgaming,

Haha, I was just about to post that contest! Really amazing looking armies in it.

I also noticed that green is the most popular good guy color. So someone with a future wanderer & Orruk force is a shoe-in to win that little contest.

"Green iz best!"

44-minute round 5 coverage! Really good seeing the games in action with commentary.

Its a bit less daunting to paint less miniatures even if the elites have more detail, and bloodreavers are a bit sub-par for their scgt points cost. I'd say each of those factors accounts for 1/3, with the last 1/3 being those who took them!

Huh, that's an interesting observation. I wonder if its a fluke or a larger trend, hmm...

Looks like a Destruction player won the tournament. The guys did an amazing job with the coverage videos, and I'd expect at least one more for the final wrap-up. Then we have all the corresponding podcasts groups covering it in the next couple of weeks. Lots of great AoS content!

This has always been a trend where I am as well, and in our AOS events I am the only one that ever brings stuff like reavers for the most part. People usually fixate on the elite stuff because its less to buy and less to paint. Mechanically there is really no incentive to field a horde of guys that perform badly individually when you can get 1/3 of that in elite models that are all really good, and you only have to paint those elite models.

Thats why some games have the "core tax" (because if you want your game to have some "normal guys" in it, game theory shows that unless you have a rule that makes that happen, people will more often than not skip it if they have the choice, and I largely agree with that theory)

Looks like it was a ton of fun. Nice to see a large group having fun with aos and beautifully painted models, esp when the naysayers say aos is dying and things like this tourney never happen. Most aos events don't get much coverage, thanks for sharing this! I hope we see more event coverage for aos or more gameplay videos like the ones from gmg.

AOS continues to gain steam!

I only wish my archaon and stormcast dragon looked that good lol.

Heelan Hammer is owed a lot of credit for this and their whole approach to AoS. They opened their mind to it early and promoted it and so many people have tried the game because of them. They even got GW to come to their event. It's also fittingly awesome how the game and event's slogan became "Only The Faithful!"

Here's the last video, short one:

Remember to check out all the podcasts soon if you're into that sort of stuff. Heelan Hammer, Facehammer, The Black Sun, Bad Dice, The Lost Lighthouse Age of Sigbrah were all there and will surely all be talking about it on their next episodes. Lots of painting material there.

Haha, thanks but honestly I don't think they would stand a chance. I have been blown away by the armies on display there - especially the midnight blue order army. That Celestant Prime conversion is amazing - better than the original model.

Was great to see destruction win! The list looked fun, a monster mash with loads of Spider Riders too. I have watched all 45 mins of the game commentary in round 5 yet, but it was great seeing the armies in action.

This whole event just looked like so so much fun.

The general vibe the videos give is a positive one. Seems like the sort of tournament I might one day attend.

I'd been following the buildup to this for months and almost pulled the trigger on attending, but an opening was forming at my work and I needed to be there to fill it and get a raise. Maybe next year.

Going to get tons of painting done while I listen to all the podcast coverage!

Hope you got that raise!

I hope I can go to an SCGT one day. Never even been on that side of the world. Would love to visit Warhammer World too.

FaceHammer won the race to get the first podcast up.

The mobile records from the SCGT event!
Welcome to the show!
In this mini show I have compiled all the records from SCGT, there are a few player interviews with Steve Follows, Tony Moore, Jimbob, Les Martin, Rob and Rob Perrin as well as round by round walk arounds by Russ commenting on the actions from the tables from this years SCGT 2016.

SCGT got on the GW webstore!

Kind of a funny thing, they took the contents of the top 3 armies at the tournament and bundled them on the website.

That's great to see - if not solely for the descriptions they've written. SCGT even has its own section under "Featured".
