For many people, the point of having a fish tank is to put some whimsical ornaments in the bottom of it for the fish to hide in like a coral reef.

Rather like decorating your garden with gnomes… such as this Ninja!

Thanks to modern technology and cheap Chinese labour, the variety of these items is at an all time high and many of them are potentially useful for war game tables.

Often cheaper than purpose made terrain for war games or model railways, fish tank ornaments usually come ready made and painted, going straight from the box to the tabletop, and can of course be repainted or adapted if you like.

The only problem is that without an aquarium shop where you can look at things and find out their suitability in terms of size and design, it’s difficult to pick good ones.

Therefore this thread is for showcasing great finds you have deployed from the fish tank to the field of battle.

First up is a Japanese Torii style gateway, from a table built by Manchu for playing the samurai skirmish game Ronin. (Torii supplied by a friend of Manchu’s and available online…)

Easy E reviews the Ronin rules here…

Some ornaments although too small for 28mm might work well with 15mm, 10mm, 6mm or even 2mm scale figures, so please welcome to post pictures of anything for any war game, it doesn't have to be 28mm scale.

Nice thread, great idea!

I think aquarium plants have been the core of table-top jungles since the dawn of time.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I've got an aquarium shop close to my house, they have tons of ruins and skulls. That would look pretty cool as scenery...

If you get something and it works well, please add a pic to the thread and a link where people might buy the items.

A while back someone did a nice collection of images for the gallery.

You'll have to hunt though since he didn't provide shopping links.

The same friend who lent me the torii pointed out this:

I found an ebay listing that gives its dimensions as 4.25 x 4.25 x 5.75".

OOh... I need one of these...

Although it wouldn't be too hard to sculpt. Hmm...

Funnily enough, given the use of dodgy (as in - leaches toxins into the water) materials, a lot of the cheaper resin ornaments sold for fish tanks are going to be more suited to wargaming than they are to actually putting in your fish tank...

Thanks! Blue Ribbon Pet's website is blocking me on country grounds lol (maybe they think I am a hacker from the north) but the first link works. I'll look out for these on eBay.

This is a great thread. I always browse the aquarium sections in pet stores back home in the UK. I haven't bought anything yet, but if I do I'll post a link up here.
