Ollo, this is Thing 1.0's first blog post on Dakka. I am starting a hordes circle army and am looking to get some feedback on games and painting. I got the army at this year's (2016) Adepticon, my dad (Gits) got everblight and will be posting his later. I went for the red and grey color scheme because when I was looking through the codex I didn't see anything but brown and wanted to switch things up a bit. The rest of it aside from the red was improved as a whiffed my way through the first model. Additionally, after I painted the first model I noticed that the red and green were opposite on the color wheel, BONUS. Thanks for looking at my blog, and looking forward to your comments.

Really nice work on those Thing 1.0. OH, he forgot to mention it but the noticeably different grey wolf was purchased used (which is why the scheme doesn't match), he tidied it up a bit and re-based it to match.

Well the apple has not fallen far from the tree, excellent start, good balance of colours, nice models, looking great with great basing.
Agree with Theo, these could easily join the Halloween Gang.

With the Mk3 ruleset coming out (for free! although you guys will likely want to get a new set of cards for each army) you have picked the perfect time to start a Hordes army
For the red and green, I think that can work - I particularly like it on that front Argus!
However, if you're going for it, I think you need to go all out. I don't think there's much that could cause a wolf's body / arms to be red, but the head brown or grey (on most of them, but particularly on the large wolf in the back left). I'd like to see the bodies and heads match . Also, was that wolf from the plastic kit with multiple options? If so, you might want to swap one of his arms back out for the sword arm - then he can be fielded as a "Warpwolf Stalker" while your other large wolf in the back right can be fielded as a "Feral Warpwolf". If you leave it as-is, they're both "Feral Warpwolves", and you're generally only going to want one of each (of almost anything in Hordes) and the two pair really well together if you make one a Stalker! It also has "reach" with the sword, which you're going to love (2" melee range instead of 0.5").
So that's my constructive feedback and I think it'd be easy to make the heads red if you choose. Quite an intimidating bunch of wolves you have here!!
Also, I would recommend a unit of "shifting stones" for the army - and you can build these from scratch! See below Wehrkind's two sets of shifting stones - scratch built ones on the left, and official ones on the right, followed by a picture of just the scratch built ones. I think they built look even better than the official model:
And of course, by "scratch built" I mean he found some small, sweet looking stones (that are thin in at least one dimension) and painted some cool markings on them . They'll let you teleport one of your badass Warpwolves forward and attack someone who isn't expecting it! They can't move afterwards, but they can attack, making the 2" reach of the Stalker all the more beneficial. He can also use his animus (basically a spell he or your warcaster casts on him) to "sprint" back after he's done attacking. Wehrkind can give you some tips on all of this, he's done it to me way too many times unfortunately (which makes a stone my #1 target in every game, to eliminate this threat).

I really like the colours you choose, the rocks help tie everything together with their slight red tint, very clever choice of basing.
Looking forward to seeing what you have install for us next.

Wow VERY bright! Good to see you getting into the family business, as it were
If I might make a suggestion, the gold could do with a bit more depth. Try starting with a darker gold- Looks like you've been using a color like the old GW "Burnished Gold". Random Dwarf group complete! This was just a little project done up as I was sculpting the Kroot cloaks. Fun colors, and they were small enough to batch paint rather quickly! ery yellow-y gold color. I would recommend one of the more "orangey" golds like the new GW Gehenna's Gold, -then- stepping to your yellow gold.
Alternatively, a slight touch of a pure silver around the edges would add a bit more pop to the color. Dont know how prepared you are for that much fine brush control. Those circle minis have a heck of a lot of filigree work on em!
My second suggestion would be to throw a black or armor wash on the silver metals. Thats an easy way to give them a bit more contrast to the rest of the models. Light brishing of bright silver over that and you're in bisiness!
You made some very good decisions colorwise. The complement of green and red make those colors all the brighter.
Very excited to see what you come up with next!

I am completely and utterly unfamiliar with hordes. But I think your colours work really well. I like the contrast between the armour and wolf pelt. One thing I would like to see is a few photos of individuals as the whole army shot makes it hard to see the full detail of some of the models. So can I request a couple of shots of the choices units? Maybe whatever that big guy at the back is? Looks cool so far, any plans of expanding?

Hey Thingy! how could I NOT follow your modelling career , your old man has been a stalwart figure on dakka and always a source of encouragement and inspiration, if you bring even a tenth of the skills and passion he has then we're in for a wonderful ride with you for many (many many many) years :-)
your first model post is showing great promise already! the colours are actually a very refreshing combination and quite pleasing to the eye, I don't have much experience with Hordes but I like the look of them, almost want to paint some myself if they're plastic? I have 3 Samoyed dogs and a Black Lab who would be perfect inspiration lol!
looking forward to seeing you learn and progress and just basically enjoy Dakka mate, if you need anything just ask!

I liked the overall shot and colours. Up close I like them even more. I think it works. Works really well.

For those wondering about the red coloration being unusual for a wolf, I feel obliged to point out that there are two native species of wolves on the U.S. mainland. The Grey Wolf derivatives (Canus lupis ssp.) and the Red Wolf (Canus rufus).

Nice addition of the sword there!
Any thought on trying out a red head, maybe just on a test model? Also I really like the cloaks, couldn't see them in the group shot but they're sweet! And they get that grey color into the scheme without needing it on the heads
