I have been putting off painting Astra Militarum far too long, so I made this painting log to motivate me to 500 points.

My gaming group have been playing a story-based campaign called Race To Goisse. Civil war has broken out on Everon, and the fate of the planet rests on whether The Duke Of Goisse (governor of the planet) is tainted by chaos. The Astra Militarum play the role of either loyal imperials or renegades, depending on whether they're fighting against Chaos or Dark Angels. So far, the forces of Chaos have begun their march to Goisse by overwhelming the defenders of Strongpoint Cathlon - a strategic hill overlooking the road into the city. Meanwhile, the Dark Angels are being led into Goisse through the back door. But can they trust the guardsmen leading them through the valleys ... ?

The games we're playing are much larger than 500 points, but I will use the list below to fight a battle or two in a sub-plot. So far about half is painted, and pictures will follow.

HQ: Company Command Squad
Vox caster, missile launcher

Troops: Infantry Platoon
Platoon Command Squad: autocannon
2 Infantry Squads: 2 autocannon, 2 grenade launchers, vox caster

Troops: Veteran Squad
2 melta guns, chimera

Fast Attack: Armoured Sentinel
Plasma cannon

Heavy Support: Wyvern

So far I have painted 15 infantry, a Plasma Cannon Sentinel, and a chimera.

Pictured: the infantry. They have been painted about a 15 year period (yikes ...) so are a bit of a mix of styles. I've attached a picture of two painted slightly differently, but they're similar enough to be in the same squad.

Painting these, I'd been mixing paints to do up to FIVE layers of paint just for the fatigues! That was taking way too long. From now on I'll be painting to the 'How To Paint Cadian Shock Troops' tutorial on Games Workshop's YouTube channel. Their technique seems pretty fast.

The plasma sentinel, and the chimera. I am very happy with the sentinel, I'm not sure if I should have gone for a different shade of green on the chimera. It's Caliban Green, whereas I might have been better with the same Castellan Green I used on the chimera.

Great start! The sentinel and the chim have come out really well. I'd hit them up with some chips n weathering myself but that's just me. Great job

Cheers folks! Yeah it is quite tempting to do some weathering on the tanks. When I get round to doing the Wyvern I think I'll weather them as a group.

I finished the second sergeant of the platoon tonight. The first I've painted using the techniques in the How To Paint Cadian Shock Troops YouTube video. I am *so* happy with how his khakis came out. The photo doesn't do it justice. The new guy is on the right.
