Bad Dice Podcast episode 131 - The Generals Handbook - Our experiences visiting Games Workshop.
In this episode I team up with Dan and Wayne from Heelanhammer and Russ from Facehammer podcast to talk about the scenes play testing at Games Workshop we were invited to take part in.
The episode is 30mins long and I have never been so happy about one of my podcast releases.
http://baddice.co.uk/generals-handbook-experiences-visiting-games-workshop/
The Generals Handbook is an awesome new release from games workshop that includes 3 new ways to play Age of Sigmar including Open, Narrative and Matched play.
Open play is pretty much Age of Sigmar as we know it now, Narrative is story driven along the line of the realm gate wars books and the 3rd version is Matched play which includes a FULL POINTS SYSTEM for all Warscrolls in the Age of Sigmar.
Ben Curry (Bad Dice Podcast), Dan Heelan (Heelanhammer), Wayne Kemp and Russ Veal (Facehammer) were invited into games workshop to, and i quote, "Help make it great"
This episode is our experiences on this fantastic weekend and a first look at what is coming in the Generals Handbook.
In the show, in addition to talking about the fantastic time we had meeting Jervis Johnson and other members of the studio, and getting to play stet some of the ideas and scenarios in the book and we also release more information about the contents of the book.
* First thing, its a book and will be release in the summer. *
* There are 5 new campaigns including path to glory,
* 22 new battle plans from small games all the way up to epic battles between the games biggest characters. *
* 6 new 'Pitched Battle' scenarios
* Multi-player and team play and of course,
* full points values for every Warscroll in Age of Sigmar.

I can't wait to see the Matched Play rules. I hope they are fairly in-depth and cover upgrades, since not all upgrades are created equal.
I suppose I better get my Stormcast Eternals painted!

And cheers for putting up a synopsis unlike some of the shows out there, who simply tell you to listen.

Interesting that the points are going to be in the book, I was sure they would add them to the app or the website so they could be updated as necessary.

I would imagine that will happen too - it chimes with the model of what they've done so far.

Yeah, it would make sense for them to continue with the 'core rules' for free. I have to say, GW have played a blinder on all this!

I won't lie... this move (sorry Manchu... I have to be honest here) has me going from intense AoS cynic, to ready-to-preorder-the-book.
I love giving players a wealth of options and I love seeing a company, especially a famously backward one, make a real effort to include as many types of gamers as possible.
So, I haven't ever heard of Path of Glory... can someone explain what that is/was and why it is so exciting to many of you?

Path to glory was an old WFB expansion/mod that followed a chaos champion and his warband over a series of games as they developed from a warband into a virtual army led by (in some cases) an actual daemon prince, picking up followers and chaos gifts based on performance.
Lots of randomness, effectively a warband RPG.

Oh God... I didn't realize how much I wanted that until this moment. I LOVE my RPG-lite table-top miniatures games.
I can't believe I am this excited about an AoS release.

I think, finally, I'm ready to give AoS a go. I wouldn't have touched it with a gakky stick before, being 'pointless'.
Now, to pick a whole new, fresh army to play. I'm actually looking forward to it.
30k, Blood Bowl and now AoS... All they need to do now is sort 40k back into a playable, non-bloated game and rerelease BFG and I'll be one happy (and poor) stompa!

Good news all round, plus very pleasing to hear that Jervis is still in the game and hard at work on it.
Excellent podcast by the way, no waffling or pointless stringing along going on, other shows should take a page or two from this one!

Have to say, little confused about the excitement over Path to Glory considering it already exists for AoS:
http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/aos-campaign-collection.html
or will the upcoming version be significantly different?

I think most people haven't heard of it. To me the more exciting thing is that there will be FOUR other campaign systems as well as PtG!

True that if there's not like rules for other factions it's less good but...
Mobile & Tablet Edition: €32.99
33€ for EBOOK? For just POG? That's not reasonable price. You will get the new book cheaper than that with more stuff! I wouldn't touch that POG book with 15 long pole with that price. Just ain't worth it.
Now the new book...THAT is much more sensible price. Could even be worth it to get it and then get some chaos warriors and marauders to play it with.

The Path to Glory campaign costs €2.99. The big collection for €32.99 includes tons of painting guides, scenarios and stuff you don't need at all.

We already have a AoS N&R thread so I am moving this to AoS Discussion - I posted the link to the podcast in the OP of the N&R thread. Automatically Appended Next Post: NewTruthNeomaxim wrote:I won't lie... this move (sorry Manchu... I have to be honest here) has me going from intense AoS cynic, to ready-to-preorder-the-book.
Haha no need to apologize to me - I like AoS a lot so I am happy to see more interest in it! My worry is that people saying "well now I will try AoS cuz points" are going to find that AoS is still AoS and all the stuff they absolutely hated back in July is still there.
