where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!
They've evidently attempted to follow the design of an apache with a nose mounted, helicopter shape thing and failed miserably. Actually...had they made that a helicopter instead of a goldfish it would look infinitely better! Also can someone tell me what the little metal bits sticking up out of the back are??

I think the pilot mugged a Tau battlesuit.

Thanks! While it might look better, I doesn't look good enough. If the rules are halfway decent, I'll roll with the following setup:

I reaaally dislike the Stormtalon. I just think its an incredibly ugly model and has far too much going on for its size. To me, its one of the worst looking models I've seen for a long time and I'm actually struggling to understand that other people like it, I personally find it that bad...

Like all three of them, might consider picking up an OrK one at some point, and the Necron one is an obvious shoe in for the boys army, however will be waiting for the time being.

We get it, people have varying thoughts on the models. Why haven't there been any scans of the rules yet? How does someone rush to take pictures of the models but not bother to snap a quick few pics of the rules for the SM and Ork flyers?

I like the Stormraven better than this. I suppose I am biased being a BA player an all but the guns do look a bit big for it and the front landing gears look as if they attached to the gun, instead of the hull. I can see a new rule coming into effect. If you suffer a weapon destroyed result then you can't land your plane without crashing. I don't think all of the Storm Talon is bad, just a few bits of it that look out of place.

Will they be in the same price range as the Stormraven?
I hope not.

I skipped over the several pages of stuff to ask this question...
Did anyone else notice that the landing gear (if you can call it that) are just two weeny little skids attached to a rotating turret? Even an Ork couldn't be convinced that this would ever work.

Okay, he's what I'm thinking for the Talon: replace the missile pods with the ACs from the Stormraven's turret, and replace the stupidly big Talon ACs with a compact missile launcher (Raven's Typhoon, or the one from the Drop Pod)

I might actually just convert a Raven to be more Talon-like, with underslung ACs, downwards slant, etc.

The Stormraven with Chapterhouse Hull is passable in my opinion.
The Stormtalon's oversized weapons, awkward hull, and oddly shaped engines just kill it for me though. Strongly dislike this model.
The Ork planes however I do like. A skilled modeller may unlock its Thunderbolt conversion potential.

Stormtalon looks AMAZING. Looks like it shouldn't fly, massively over-sized guns and G-Police engines.
I'll have two. 40K should be farfetched and ridiculous

I think those who are dismissing the Ork flyers as 'phoned in' or lame are missing how well they've captured the Orky aesthetic. Ork vehicles tend to be based on or reminiscent of historical vehicles, and it's a well established look for Ork flyers that they're essentially Korean War era jets with retro features like Turrets. It's all good. The Blitz-Bomma is especially nice - I can't really see how it could be improved. Ork players everywhere will snap these up and soon be running around the house making whooshing noises.
The problem with the Marine flyer is that it's so unnecessary. It's basically a glorified Landspeeder. As if Marines didn't have enough different vehicles and sub-variants, they now have this - yet they're supposed to be an expeditionary force.
The Necron flyer looks good, but it's a bit 'ordinary'. I'm fine with it having a pilot - putting pilots in Necron vehicles makes them look more interesting - but in this case it might have looked better without one.

That's where I've seen the style before. It's been so long since I rocked anything from my PS1 I totally didn't see it.

How does a fast moving gunship not fir with an expeditionary force? We use them now. They're fast, hit hard, and have multiple roles.
I do agree that they have plenty of choices in Land Speeders, so it seems a bit redundant, but it fits Marines tactics and roles perfectly - basically because it's in the same role as a Land Speeder.

No, the detailing on it is different, as is the overall shape.
Thanks - I have a Stormraven in my maybe-someday-I'll-paint-this pile and for some reason the canopy has been in the corner of my desk forever, so it looked pretty familiar,
I thought the Stormraven was horrible when it was released but over time it sort of grew on me and I came to like it to the point that I bought it (along with the CHS kit, which puts up to 2 inches on my Flyer, you can trust me I'm a doctor)... but I don't think the Roflcopter is going to grow on me at all.
I think it could be converted to look less awful, but I wonder if It can be converted to look good. Maybe you guys that are converting it to have smaller guns are going in the wrong direction with this.

IF the fusalage was twice as long and it had stubby wings with weapon hardpoints, it might be better.....the rules and pts seem underwhelming too, especially compared to the Vendetta...(though most things are..)
It's a pity I wanted to like this....

No no no Ouze.
WRONG.
Look, there's still clearly too much aircraft and not enough gun!
Someone needs to fix this, pronto!

They really haven't. The trukk perfectly captures the ork aesthetic: ramshackle and primitive, with parts clearly ripped off whatever seemed appropriate at the time.
The battle wagon does almost as well, although it's a little too clean looking for my taste.
These though are just world war 2 planes with teeth stuck on the front. Yes, the WW2 plane aesthetic if established, but it needs to be orkified to really work. These are just lazy designs compared to the rest of the range.
