The Polyversal project is back up on Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cewargames/polyversal-miniatures-game/description

Polyversal is a universal tabletop miniatures game for two or more players designed by veteran gamer Ken Whitehurst and developed and published by Collins Epic Wargames (known for their award-winning Spearpoint 1943 line of card wargames). The system is intended for use with 6mm scale miniatures, but may be used with larger 10mm or 15mm miniatures if desired. The game uses color-coded polyhedral dice (D4-D12) and Combatant Tiles to reflect the combat qualities of your combatants, their weaponry, their attack ability, evasion, combat effectiveness, and more.

A single roll of three color-coded polyhedral dice is used to resolve each attack without the need for multiple re-rolls to determine hits, saves, or damage effects. This makes combat resolution fast and intuitive.

Hexagonal Combatant Tiles that you may create and customize to represent miniatures from any line physically arrange together to provide a visual command structure for each "battlegroup" you form around a central command unit. With all of the vital information you need on each Combatant Tile, your eyes remain focused on the battlespace, not the rulebook.

A sleek initiative-based orders and activation system keeps players continually involved every turn. You don't stare and wait as your opponent has fun- Initiative "face-offs" between Battlegroup Commanders determine the next minis that activate.

For those who backed the Robotech Tactics kickstarter, this might be a good game to use the Robotech miniatures with. Or anyone with old Epic armies.

Sounds a bit too like Stargrunt 2.. Which I am not a fan of in the least.

the Mothership...

I lost track of this game after posting some constructive criticism in the original thread for the original kickstarter.

I may sound like a pessimist but I see this campaign going the way of others following the trend of preemptively cancelling before inevitably failing in order to re-evaluate.

I am not canceling the project early. It will either make it or it will fail.

Despite the quote above from the creator, it looks like my prediction was spot on as it was cancelled early and apparently re-evaluated.

My initial issue (cropped out of the quote above) was specifically about the price of the PDFs at $25 when you could get a hard copy AND a pdf for $30. I'll have to take a look and see if that has changed in the months in between.

edit: Yup, they did follow up and indeed act on the feedback so kudos to them. I hope that it helps the campaign to put the pdf at a much more reasonable crowdfunding price of $10. I'll be taking a closer look at the video/campaign later on tonight at home.

Wait.. why is the goal so high if it's just a set of rules? That makes no sense..

It's not just a set of rules, MLaw. The project is really a two-pronged approach.

1) For those of us with existing miniatures, it is rules and a system to stat out what you have.

2) For new gamers, it is an entire boxed game with minis and stat cards for those minis included.

Boxes, art, miniatures, counters, dice, etc. cost money. I could have just gone to Wargame Vault if I wanted to only print my rules. Instead, Collins Epic Wargames has decided to publish it as a boxed game that will appeal to stores and new players, while also offering just the rules as a PDF for veterans, There's also a boxed version with just the printed rules, counters and dice, but no minis, for those who want to customize their own armies.

We are trying to grow the hobby, not just appeal to folks like us who are already sitting on piles of unpainted figures.

Thanks for looking at our KS.

@Warboss: Yes, we read all the feedback we could find from the last KS (including yours) and made a number of changes we think will make this time around a success. We are at 50% funding in one day, with more interest and higher average pledges than last time around, so I want to believe it's working.

Why is the funding goal so much lower this time than last time?

The first Kickstarter also included a series of really cool skyscrapers from The Phalanx Consortium. A large chunk of the funding was going to fund the production molds for those buildings. TPC is still supporting Polyversal (with a free building!) but has agreed to do its own Kickstarter for the terrain it will make.

We have also pulled the proposed combatant tile generation app, which was adding quite a bit to the bottom line. I think we will still end up with an online tool to help make combatant tiles, but it will not be part of the funding request unless we smash a bunch of stretch goals. Finally, CEW has cut some internal costs by reducing the number of initial boxed sets it plans to complete for distribution to retail.

That said, I am just the designer, not the publisher, so I'm sure Byron could give a more detailed answer, but that it what I understand from our conversations about the re-launch.
