This one took me about a week tomfinish and i'm also a pretty shoddy painter so that lets the piece down a bit but here's how it's come out anyway any feedback would be great!
All the custom work is done with green stuff like thedead troll!
Thanks for looking, and if anyone wants to see some mid build photos give me a shout

Absolutely fantastic work, lots of motion in this scene and I love the Gondorians being swept aside by the troll. I'm sure Sideshow Collectibles put out a statuette showing something similar with an armoured troll knocking aside poor Gondorians.

Great to see LOTR stuff again.

Thanks for the feed back Oppl means lot, i think i know the piece you meant, i was about half way through this build when i saw that someone had won the golden deamon with a similar piece in 2004. How well it had been done was so demorilizing but I didn't check it out too thoroughly, i wanted mine to look like it had it's own style at least that's my excuse. I've improved my painting massively since i started a few months ago so hopefully I'll be able to cleanup and do the proper detail work on it soon!

Will probably get sent to a work camp by the forum mods for adding this cheekiest of bumps. Still looking for painting tips if i'm honest, any tips would be greatly appreciated

What tips are you looking for? I could share my method for achieving movie-accurate Gondorians effectively that doesn't take too much time to do. As for trolls or the orcs, I'm afraid I'm not much use!

Yeah definitely mate please! I've done my best since touching it all up, tried to paint them how they were in the films but they're definitely missing something, what would you reccomend? Now I'm finding it really tough getting into their facial details because they're so tightly arranged aswell it's logistical nightmare! Haha

The key is to go minimal.

Black acrylic spray undercoat to begin with. For your basic Warriors of Minas Tirith begin with an Ironbreaker basecoat for all armour and metal areas. Wash heavily with Nuln Oil then finally highlight with Runefang Steel. The effect is absolutely fantastic. You can then just use a slightly dark gray for highlighting parts of the cloth and straps/belts/gloves. Auric Armour Gold for the sword hilts with Runefang Steel highlights. If you look at the film costumes and stills, the primary colours for Gondor are black and silver. If you have your guys predominantly black and silver with no light browns anywhere (bows and spears can be a dark brown) and blacky/grey belts you'll see how fantastic and movie-like they look.

I've got a huge Gondorian army painted this way and for the first time in over a decade of owning Gondorians I've finally got ones that look like they do in the films. You can then add your whites, golds, blues etc when you get character models, Citadel Guards etc. but for basic infantry keep it basic. You'll be able to paint them up relatively quickly and they'll look great en-masse.

Thanks for the response mate that genuinely really helpful! Yeah I was thinking that, atleast I noticed some of the browns I used to highlight the undergarments were definitely wrong and stuck out a bit. I'll give them all another touch up bearing this in mind I've got so many pots of nuln oil lying around. I'll give the orks some more extensive deep brown shading try and get them to look more clothy for lack of a better word! God knows what i'll do with the trolls, may just try and add some detail to their skin and back.
Anyway cheers for all the help and kind words Oppl!

As I say - I'm no use with Orcs or big creatures so good luck and make sure you share your results as I always love seeing LOTR stuff again!! Your trolls looked great regardless.
