I've recently started full time commission painting, so thought I should show some work (hopefully to get new clients, or else this will be a very short experiment )

As a background, I've been painting over 22 years now, I've won some best army and best single figures at various UK events, as well as scoring four bronze and four silver coins in the GenCon/Lock and Load P3 events I entered when I get to pop over to the States. I also won the PP speed painting event at Gencon twice, and the Wyrd one too, beating Marike Reimer in the final, which was insane as she is ten times the painter I am for sure.

I also own/organise/run SmogCon in my spare time.

Anyway, enough of that, its pictures people want to see right?

Thought I would start out with some personal work to show what I consider to be my "upper" tier. I don't get to paint to much to this level as budget is always a thing for clients, but if you have deep pockets I'd happily paint to this standard all day long.

This guy got a silver at Lock and Load a few years back, Ron and Matt said it was creeping up to a gold, but I'm not there yet.

This was an entry for a NQM painting competition, it also scored a silver

This was a silver in the unit category from the same Lock and Load as the Trolllkin

So, hopefully you like what you see, I will follow up with examples of my more general work in the next few days. In the meanwhile, you can check it out here

Thanks for looking.
Jon.

Today, I have been painting Malifaux Outcasts.

These models have been painted to the basic tier, so cost around £10 per figure (rats are cheaper, Rat King a little more).

Enjoy.

Today, we look at a recent Warmachine commission I completed.

These were painted to a tier somewhere between basic and mid (though I ended up going a bit more in depth with Victor Pendrake as there was a lot of detail on that model that wanted painting).

These would be mid table top I guess, anyway, client seems happy with them and that's the main thing right?

Group shot of all four mercs

Enjoy.

Finished up a TAG for a client today. This one was allegedly mid tier, but I got in to the project and ended up taking him further than I otherwise might for the price.

Ah well, client is happy so that's the important thing right?

Interested in having some work done? Why not PM me or get in touch via the FB site www.facebook.com/SinisterSquidStudios/

Cheers
Jon.

Finished some reinforcements for an ongoing project today. Warmachine Merc force.
These are painted to my "mid tier", which is a good tabletop standard I think.

Enjoy.

Clean paintwork, Jon - what's with the Rockram gun pose, though? Looks a little odd like that.

The Rockram is supposed to be running. The stock model has the legs in a weird place where you can't make him stand normally, and as it was the second one I wanted to not just mirror the first... hopefully it looks less odd in person.

Been working on some new stuff too. I've changed my tiers slightly dropping to two, as I'm getting pretty much all of my work on these two levels.

Trooper - £20 = high tabletop
Hero - £30 = low display

I can do high display stuff to, but the demand isn't really there sadly.

Here is the new stuff, first the PG exclusive Gorman De Sea Wolfe from PP.

Then some figures from the Kickstarter for Journey:Wrath of Demons.

Some Trooper level Khador fresh off the painting table today.
This level is designed to look nice on mass on the table, while not breaking the bank. Far from my top level work, but they look nice when grouped up I think.

Hope you enjoy.

Another week, another Trooper tier unit.

These guys seem to have become the new hotness on the WM scene, it's nice to see an older unit come back round (they were bonkers in MKI) and the sculpts held up well. I do miss four trooper sculpts per unit, there are a few scattered around the PP range, and it makes a big difference to the visual appeal.

Enjoy.

Two more mercenary solos for the ongoing Rhulic project. These were painted to Hero tier, so smoother blends and more levels of highlighting. It makes the difference on characters I think.

Till next time.

Taking a break from dwarves with a Legion commission

Client wants the standard scheme, and these are basic tier models, so nothing flashy, but good to play.

This is two days work (though half a day was lost to building the next chunk of the army.

Cheers

I really like the skin tones and shading; they have a real "frost giant" vibe.

Cheers. Frost Giant is a good reference I reckon, they are more snow ogres, but what's a few degrees and a couple of inches right?

Today we have the boss, Thagrosh.

Tomorrow I get to work on something pretty exciting. My first studio piece for a mini company. These will be a higher standard as benefits promotional work.
Going to be working in a different scale too which is pretty cool.

Till next time.

Two heavy Warbeasts today (the other things are coming soon, just need to make a final tweak to one of them).

Typhon, and a slight tweak to the Carnivean as the bone carapace had got a little out of hand, so it was toned down to a more muted, dark finish.

Till next time.

Presenting the new Black Gate Miniatures 10mm Ogre range.

These guys will be up on Kickstarter in the near future, and I got to paint the first three cast.

They are great little minis, and there are some fun concepts planned if all goes to plan with the Kickstarter.

Disclaimer - I don't own the company, these are not my minis, but I am friends with Barry, the guy who is behind all this, and he's a great guy who has big (tiny) plans for 10mm minis.

Enjoy.

Bought a new airbrush and took it for a spin on a new commission.

Still plenty to learn, but I'm pretty happy with how this guy ended up.

He looks good, there's something about the way the skin goes with those metals that I really like. I have to ask though, are the arms magnetized?

No magnets here buddy, I get to paint four of the monsters instead :(
