To fit in with the fluff of my Tau army, I decided to make a custom Riptide. (They are all non-Tau volunteers.)

My Tau Army write up WIP in case you are curious:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11BFTe23GPPgY29h8YI_VDnxJbZTvWvJpJBWJsqBj3Pc/edit?usp=sharing

I have a lot more plasticard and putty work to do. I am taking my time with her trying my best: she will be a centerpiece of the army after all.

Any suggestions? Any thought on how to make her look 'big'? I am wondering if some ladder rungs and stuff on her might help.

I have begun work on her left leg and adjusted her pose so she does not lean back so far.

Please, how does the proportions look? general comments please.

OK, all I need to do now is finish the right leg and give her a thorough once over sanding rough spots and filling holes.

I decided that I must not be going for cheesecake armor, she is covered well, does not have boob armor, and has sensible shoes, so the bare head didn't fit in, so I gave her a helmet. I still wanted to show her face and hair, so I worked up a compromise. The Scarlet witch head looked a bit small after that, so I sculpted a new face on top of it.

I decided to make the base a small story that she is just walking through, I think it works well and establishes scale.

Looks good. Like a giant walking statue.

Maybe add some small bullet scarring etc when you paint.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Sir, I cannot tell if you are insane, or a genius. Either way, this is amazing

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Primed and ready for paint! Now you can get an idea about how successful the putty work is and get an idea on how she will look finished. I don't want to get go fever and ruin her with a rushed paint job, so I am going to wait a couple of days till I have the time to sit down and take my time.

Okay I had some serious doubts when you posted the first pics but I can see what's going on here now. There's a lot of conversions floating around that are just dolls on 90mm bases with some chains or whatever but this is actually cool. It's like those old 80s giant robot animes with the giant girl robot and her buresta FIYAAH missiles and whatnot. Give it a white/pink color scheme and you'd have Arcee from transformers.

I agree with Badablack. Though I still don't **feel** the pose. I definitely see what you are going for, but I just don't **feel** it.
None the less, great conversion work so far!
Looking forward to seeing it painted

Dolls on bases with some chains. . . OK, that sounds scary. You know what? I'm NOT going to google that.

Ya, The action figure was little more than an articulated armature. The face was the only part I was considering leaving exposed. (faces are hard to sculpt) but as it ends up, I ended up covering it up and sculpting one.

And 80s giant robot anime? Exactly what I was going for, more or less. Think a Zentradi from Robotech. Who needs a giant robot when you are a member of a 30' tall bio engineered warrior race with advanced body armor and a rifle made from the main gun off a tank?

Ya the pose she looks a little awkward. I have trouble with poses. Well, now it the time to fix it if I am going to. Any Ideas?

OK, I think the right leg is the worst offender and by moving it I can do the most good with the least repairs. I also did a slight adjustment to the left arm so the shield is in a more defensive position. I don't know if it is perfect, but she seems a lot more graceful now.

You know how the tau have aliens working for them? Well, She is a 30' tall alien who fights for the tau. In the table top she will use the stats of a riptide. Ever seen robitech? Think a zentradi.

Legs not quite right, maybe a dark color from knees to behind to hide my sculpting flaws
Distressing and weathering need some work, for example, I think the left wing front is too distressed,
and the face needs a lot more work.

Any Ideas?

Some perspective, she is a big girl, hope no one gives me grief about that.

A little more work.

She has a friend! I am wondering how to fit him into the fluff. Maybe he is an Tau ace who is consumed to pride and she outperformed him on a battle field, so he transferred to the riders to show her up. Will he show her up? Will he find his way back to the Greater Good? Will the rivalry forge them into better warriors or destroy them?

Some more work done:

A lot of going back and fourth on the face, but I think she is getting there. Considering this is the first face of this size and the third total I have sculpted, I am quite happy with it. She may be no Model, but I think she is pretty enough.

For being sculpted by hand, that face is pretty great! As for the friend, I like the idea of a rival trying to compete with this "non-Tau upstart". Plus it's a way to get an actual Riptide into your fluffy army!

Thanks, but remember: Up until recently all miniature faces were sculpted by hand, out of green stuff, in a matter of minutes, and at the final size. Including those on your normal 28mm figs. Is that just not amazing?

A well done model, but what exactly is she supposed to be? Is she a giant? Is she a robot? Why is she so big?

Yes, she is a 30' tall alien who is part to the Tau empire and serves in a all alien core of the military.

She looks great! Perhaps a little big for a Riptide, though, especially after seeing her next to an actual Riptide. Still, I'd happily play against that!

I was being good, honest! I was all ready to do the riptide model just as it was without any conversion, but as I was looking to pin the jetpack, I noticed something. GW has been using the Riptide Jetpack wrong all this time! A couple slight twist and the 'meh' jetpack becomes a cool set of jetpack wings! Obviously this is how it is supposed to go. Well, once I start converting I can't stop so I am trying the whole Giant Alien thing all over again. The first turned out very well, but I just have to address the problem again.

I need help.

The fixed pose on the first one is MUCH better. I can see the amount of work that has gone into it, so you must be very proud!

I know if I tried a face for my third ever sculpt, it'd end up looking like a melted snowman!

Much more progress, I still need to sand some surfaces smooth.

Some questions:

How are the proportions?

Does she seem to chunky? Or does it look right for her wearing armor?

After making her behind I decided I need to make a curvier bust to go with it. Does it work? If not smaller or do away with the curves all together?

Please, constructive criticism is necessary to improve.

Thanks

A bit of overkill on the boobs and butt imo, but you clearly know how you like your women

I did like the look of her torso in the previous post. It looks much more Tau-like
