This seems reasonble!

But jokes aside how does everyone feel about the new basing rules? New opportunity for scenic bases? Or just weird and annoying?

Totally reasonable sorceror base size.

Under the couch

It's not so much 'new' as 'return to how it used to work'...

It goes a bit of scope for cool bases. Most people manage to not abuse it.

Yeah, I think it was, what, 4th edition that allowed you to use larger bases, just not smaller. Anyway, as an example, my Necron Immortals are on 30mm bases. They're the old 2E metals, and being top heavy 25mm was too small, but 32mm was too expensive from GW, so I just called the difference and bought cheap 30mm bases for them.

Agreed, I have zero issue with people wanting cool bases and using non-standard bases, provided they are not smaller than the bases that were provided with the miniature.

Someone puts a new school grey knight terminator on a 32 mm base, or somehow managed to put one on an old small slota-base, I'm going to take umbrage with it. That said, if you want your terminators on a 45 mm decorative base instead of the standard 40 mm size? Cool! So long as you like, it looks cool, and isn't smaller in diameter than the base that came with the model, have at it!

Just my opinion on that. Take it easy.

I love the basing "policy" since I use a lot of counts-as models.

Same, especially for my counts as flesh hounds (chaos warhounds) which are on 40mm instead of 50mm. 50 is just way too big for the models.

Generally I found that people who go for advantages tend to put them on smaller bases. I rarely see someone put a model on a larger base solely for a rules advantage (meaning that every big base I saw was because they wanted to model something cool).

I think this is how it should be.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Honestly the pic was just kinda a spur of the moment thing when making a thread. But anyway, personally I don't mind different bases in models, but a fairly large pet peeve of mine is when a squad has mixed bases for the same unit. (I.e. I've played games where a squad of crisis suits had three differing sizes on them. But if a squad leader/Independant character/any other different unit in the squad had a custom scenic base it woundnt both me at all.)

I heavily agree with this. Things should only be allowed on bases equal to or larger than the bases provided with them. There are a few exceptions of course, but for the most part there's no reason you would ever need a smaller base other than to try and cheese the rules.

I use 25/30/40mm rounds from Renedra for basing my 2nd edition stuff, which is all close enough to normal GW standards.

I upsize most of my bases. All my marines go on 32s now, whether they come with em or not. My bikes went on those cool new oval bases as well. I play in the GW store, and nobody has said anything about it, other than "cool bases", the manager included. As long as you're not taking extreme liberties, it's cool.

Sounds like my plan to put Azrael and his helm bearer on an oval base together is a go!

Basically I use any base as long as it stays sensible. Things like marines, tzeentch flamers and necrons on 32mm whilst bloodletters, guard or gaunts on 25mm. If it looks better on a bigger base, go for it.

Or just a new opportunity for GW to sell you something -

Good to see the guys doing the FAQs are talking to the rest of GW. They could have easily shot themselves in the foot with this!

At £20 I was all set to get pissed at GW for charging £20 for 10 bases (I genuinely expected that), but 60 of them seems pretty good. Shame I've just re-based most of my army...

Shame the new paints aren't such good value - https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Skullcrusher-Brass-12ML - why are these £3.50, but other metallics are £2.55? That's a 37% increase!

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

Suits me to a tee, a lot of my stuff is old 2nd stuff and Im simply not rebasing them with newer/bigger sizes.
Couldnt care really about the rule, if someone wants to MFA then I'll probably avoid them.

I put my stuff on the new size bases mainly because it makes the models more aesthetically pleasing to me. On top of that, I was getting pretty peed off with paint wearing off the feet of my marines or equivalent sized models when I painted them. Drove me fething nuts.
