Got to try out Horizon Wars today with my Robotech minis. Great little models-free game.

I've had a starter set of Robotech that might eventually see action due to this. And a lot of other mechs from Battletech. Great video, and I did download the cards too.

Thanks man! It's a lot of fun, basically 'Frostgrave for Mechs and Tanks'.

I love model-range free games for this. Gives me an excuse to paint all the stuff I've wanted to paint for a while!

I also like that despite the scale, it is still relatively small-scale. I mean, it isn't BATTLE SCALE but more a skirmish at 6mm.

Really nice table and models; that might be the best RTT VF1S I've seen.

The game looked interesting, but a touch abstract for my tastes. I guess that's normal for a gaming system designed to be used with any models though.

This is great! Will watch later. I was on the fence about buying the rules. My two heavy gear armies might get use out of this yet!

Great at explaining as always. I was gonna get rid of my heavy gear but might just keep it based on this. Looks great.

Is there rules of different weapons? (Cannons missiles, lasers etc) Or is it all generic special abilities and no actual weapons?

It's more how you allowcate Firepower and the perks you take that give you your weapon loadout. That way you don't have to worry so much about precise modeling.

So for low model count robot skirmishes and since you played both, which do you prefer..Heavy Gear or Horizon Wars rules?

For heaven's sake, don't make him choose!

They are, to be fair, very different games that you just happen to be able to play with the same collection of minis. I love the granularity of HGB with its sensors and huge range of weapons. HW is supposed to have a much shallower learning curve, but is far more abstract in how it handles the minutiae of combat.
