Hi,

So this guys progressing along, I'm gradually reworking the armour to improve on the blending and overall tone of the blacks and greys, though I'm really struggling with what colour to do the large crystal that he's stood on.

Dark blue was too random as it's nowhere else on the model, light blue is wrong as it takes away from the weapon and power sources, and I guess black will just be lost with the rest of the model (I could just go black and gloss varnish on the crystal whilst I matt varnish the armour?)

Wdyt?

Why not go orange for contrast against the blue?

That is a tough one. Why not consider a rich Purple ? I know it is found nowhere else on the model, but it is a complementary colour to the blues and you can always just make it seem like part of the world they are on.

I saw a guy once do a Salamanders army, and his terminators were standing on rocks with Crystals growing out of them. Despite the armour being Greens and Black, and the Lava theme being orange and yellow, he had Bright blue and Purple crystals jutting from the rocks and it honestly looked awesome.

The world the model is on ( The base ) can always be different from the model itself

They're great suggestions, thanks

Having looked at hte GW official picture, I can see I've screwed up a little in that part of the crystal is actually just a rock, though perhaps if I paint that in either orange or ochre, the rock will fit in nicely with the desert base and gold on the model.

Deep purple crystals could provide the transition from black to light blue quite nicely, thank you both very much, I was stumped before now - I'll give it a whirl tonight

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Edit - I could redo the crystals on his helm, weapon and gorget in purple too, to introduce the colour to the rest of the model.

Thanks guys, this has been really helpful

I would do Purple.

I would NOT redo his crystals. Make his either the blue or add another variation with Green.

But make the crystal on the base different, those contrasts and varying and sometimes opposing colors help that otherwise basic metallic scheme the necrons have.

Green? Why green? It won't be anywhere else on the model
