Okay, so I'm getting 2 Emma Frost figures; one flesh, one diamond. But I've never painted diamonds before. Trying to get some tips how to do it; my plan was basically to paint mithril blue, then use the GW blue gem paint, then dry brush another silver over it. Wondering how that would work, or if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I don't think blue + blue gem + silver DB will get you the results you want, but you can always try it on a sprue first to see how you like it.

The blue gem paint is really just a glossy, thick translucent paint. So, if you paint it over blue paint, you won't really get much "gem". You need to paint it over a metallic paint to maximize the glossiness, since the mica flakes will shine through.

Personally, I this is what I think of when I think Emma Frost in diamond form:

I don't think that's well-served by metallic paint (because diamond form is actually glassy, not metallic), though I suppose you could try to metallicize some light blue-grey like Ultuan and see how that looks. I don't think you'd get enough contrast to be convincing.

IMO, you are better off painting with light blues and making sharp highlights with whites.

Paint ceramite white, wash with guilliman blue glaze and highlight with Ulthuan grey followed by white scar. Should look pretty good!

Also, seal it with water fx, like SW Realistic Water.

Probably for the shine. Personally I'd use Future floor wax. The gloss will add to the glassy effect.

Is it better than the GW gloss coat? I have that and floor wax stuff my roommate bought.

I swear by Future. Use it for everything.
Make washes, hard seal before matte and to make things shiny or wet.

Do you have a picture of what the figure looks like? Is it faceted or smooth? What scale?

Those things will affect what technique will look best.

It is smooth, and actually I've already painted her; I'll post her in the thread shortly so you can all see how she turned out.

Thanks!! Yeah, she turned out pretty much exactly as I wanted. Since she's a lot softer in colors, I didn't want her costume looking like a "dark" white like my MN Magneto did; he can be seen in the showcase thread. So her costume ended up being straight white with a fenris grey heavily watered down wash over it. And the skin was mithril over white primer, then new blue gem glaze, then the drybrush white and GW gloss coat over that. Turned out about as accurate to her comic look as I'm personally capable of getting.
