Sorry if this has already been discussed, but the Heldrake has become Sold Out on GW's website. Anyone know why?

Probably because they've sold out.

Happens from time to time. It will most likely return one they can organise another production run.

That usually is accompanied by a "Temporarily Out of Stock", not "No Longer Available"...

That's kind of interesting. Will be worth watching one way or the other. Could see a new variant for the Heldrake coming in a new box, ala the new Ork and Space Marine things.

I say is a page error.

Remember a while back when the normal CSM box had the same issue and people were flipping tables at how they were gonna get Squatted, then it ended up getting reverted to normal with absolutely no fanfare? Probably the same thing, especially since they were doing maintenance on the site yesterday.

The CSM box actually was getting repackaged at the time and they were running down stock levels before bringing the new box out.

The contents are the same.

It literally was just that it was a new box for the models.

Like I said, whatever floats your boat. It's literally not worth my time arguing with you or going back months of pages to dig out that thread.

I'm just pointing out that stuff sometimes go "sold out" and then inexplicably comes back with little reason as to why they got sold out.

Oblits are marked as Temporarily. Same as the plague marines, some finecast characters and some conversion sets.

For those I'm guessing they just need to do another batch of finecast-ing.

From experience seeing things regularly going OOP in the LotR/Hobbit sections, the SOLD OUT graphic over the image means the model is currently OOP.

It is true that sometimes OOP models go back into print. In the case of LotR/Hobbit, this involved a major event and an in-person announcement from the GW employee responsible for the line.

They are either repackaging it in a new box or throwing in another sprue so you can make another flyer with it. With a +$25 price increase to reflect this exciting new change!

Now that you mention it, that had been a fairly common thing. From memory, new packaging gets a new code, so the original will go out of stock and quite often be replaced with an identical kit in a different box.

Anyone know if the Heldrake had been previously updated to the new grey box?

Edit - never mind... Box is shown on the page, and its the old one.

So that would certainly lend weight to potential packaging change.

Considering GW's penchant for getting 10-15 years out of a plastic mold, I can assure you it's simply being re-packaged. (maybe they'll add a sprue to make something new, but this is an extremely "new" model by GW standards).

With the Kharn reveal (pretty sure we can stop calling it a "leak"), I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more CSM models getting a reboxing. Wouldn't want The Betrayer to get lonely in the "New Releases" section.

Models have disappeared unexpectedly in the past. The original Land Raider kit was a prime example of this - the mould was broken, resulting in no Land Raider being available for most of 2nd edition, as GW decided not to make a new mould until the redesigned kit was ready for production, which happened early in 3rd edition.

Similar story with the original Ork Battle Wagon, although that kit was picked up by Armorcast and briefly sold in resin instead.

There have also been cases like the Mike McVey-sculpted Space Wolf Scouts which were only available for three-and-a-half minutes before being replaced, with the general consensus being that GW realised how appallingly bad they were and got rid of them as soon as McVey left...

That's not likely to be the case here, though, and I would be a little surprised if GW is still only relying on a single mould per kit... which leaves repackaging or some sort of model update as the most likely options.

And there I was half way through painting my last Heldrake.

Over time, I've become quite fond of it. I originally bought it on a whim and considered some serious conversion work into an actual ship rather than a dragon.

It's whimsical but a Thousand Sons dragon has become something I rather like - matching their symbol.

If this is a new ship, could be awesome. Repackaging, no harm no foul - it's not something I think needs replacement. It's also entirely conceivable that are adding a new sprue to make it a dual kit. Hydra drake would be amusing - speculation fun times

As expected. It would be extraordinarily strange for a reasonably popular, recent model to go out of production. As long as the injection mold is still good, there's no reason to completely take a plastic kit out of circulation without a replacement.

There is a new transfer sheet in the red flavour chaos marines box. Crimson Slaughter transfers and all!
