I like the idea of Cult Mechanicus. When it comes to the Kastelan Robots, I like the idea.....but the models leave a little to be desired. They'd look better with the replacement heads from Anvil industries. Fluff wise, should all the robots look the same though? I feel like Cult leaders would accept all different kinds of basic designs with similar abilities. After a few generations of repairs and refits they should almost be individual works of art. With that in mind, would it look good or just goofy to mix together Kastelans, Forgeworld Castelax, and Mantic Games Striders (Pic below). Honestly, I have a bunch of Striders from when I backed their kickstarter and I'd love to have a use for them. Of course I'd be converting them to have appropriate 40k weapons, possibly using leftover Dreadnought CCW's.

'Murica! (again)

I have a solo cult mech army and I plan on getting some of the 3rd party heads for at least some (probably 4 of my 8 robots) to start. Hi-Tech has come cool mechanicum stuff as well though I'm not sure how much it would mesh with a full army. I'd love to see some of those models in person.

As for the robots, I feel like Rob Sanders gave a bit more varied description in his 30K mechanicum stuff after the initial two book releases which accompanied the model line. Instead of cutting down the model (perhaps it's just the Ork player in me) I'm been tinkering with ideas to build out from them. Battle damage is a nice way to add to the character but some of the bits from kataphron and various skitarii kits have some merit. Absolutely want to include some fallen or being stepped on foes when I upgrade the basing. Though my favorite alteration is replicating an accident where the legs are loose and the robot easily tips forward as if powered off. Always good for laughs in every game, especially if I'm getting my ass kicked. heh

Looking forward to people's conversion ideas here. Nice thread!

I'm migrating this to P&M (it could also fit in 40k Discussions, if you'd prefer). It's not a News or Rumors kind of thread.

There are so many available robots out there, I'd just look for the ones which match the weaponry and you think fit the look. VOTOMS, etc.?

Another model I think might work if I could ever find more of them. A LONG time ago I found a model of Robocop 2, AKA Cain. (the evil Robocop from the sequel) That model was roughly the size of a dreadnought and would look wonderful as a Cult Mech bot.

How does the Mantic model compare to the actual castellan in size?

If the shoulders weren't so big it would be pretty close. It's a tad taller at the shoulders, but since it has no head it sort of evens out.
