Changing Our Legion's Name

Title is a mouthful but welcome to my progress log. Little bit about the reasoning behind it then I'll get stuck in. I started playing 30k a few years ago before taking a two year break from the hobby (fething depression) and I used to play Emperors Children for that purple yo'. Anyways got back into the swing of things so ordered myself the Betrayal at Calth boxset and decided to get into it. These are the first models I've painted in a couple of years so they are far from perfect. But I am rather proud of how they turned out, Makes me regret taking that break as this is something I love. The first part of this plog will be covering: - Contemptor Dreadnought and magnetising it's weapons (Complete) - 30 MKIV Tactical Marines (almost done!) - Legion Centurion (Librarian) COMPLETE - Legion Preator - 10 Legion Terminators (Five from the set and five I already had) I'll update this post as I complete models and buy more. Enjoy ~ DaughterOfHorus

Here's the centurion (librarian) That I spent most of the day painting. Using him as a preator or a Legion champion until I get the models from Forge world (currently in the mail coming to me)

10 More MKIV Marines in the making. This is the first squad of three planned out. Wanting 60 marines in all separated into three squads for just blobbing objectives.

Love the Son's of Horus green shade you've got there. Looks awesome!
Some close ups of the chaplain mini would be greatly appreciated. The detailing looks very well done, but it's a little far away to get a good solid look at it.
Looking forward to seeing more. Also, what kind of basing scheme are you going to go with? Just curious on that end.
Take it easy and welcome back to the hobby!

I'll nab a close up in the morning in the natural light. Artificial really doesn't look nice on models Base wise I am putting a fine gravel on then drybrushing different shades of grey on to make a sort of city/rubble look to it. Basing it on Istvaan III as these will be loyalists Sons. Just waiting on my order from GW arriving which has PVA glue in it. Then I will be basing them as I finish.

Sounds good!
I went with a similar basing scheme with my Imperial Guard, though I'm a full convert to molded bases now.
I would check out Rusty Nickel miniatures. They do some pre-molded bases that are amazing and very reasonably priced for packs of 10 (the 25 and 32 mm) or 5 (40mm and biker bases). Link: http://www.rustynickelminiatures.com/
I've got images of the painted bases on my Blood Angels in my gallery if you'd like to see some in-use. (Shameless self plug there )
Beyond that, I do hope to see the updated pictures soon. Take it easy and best of luck.

Was playing around with the colour scheme for my Sons yesterday and finally managed to find one that I am reallllly happy with. All it took was replacing the dark bronze with black on the shoulder trim and knee pads and doing some neater highlights. Keeping my usual layering of Kabalite green the same.
What do you all think?

Meet Bert and Ernie the tactical sergeants
Putting a magnet in their wrists so I can have a choice in ranged weapons. Power fist is to give me a chance against T4 bastards. Melta bombs are cheap as hell in 30k so really worth taking one just on the off chance a contemptor tries to mulch you (it's 30k... People always run them )

Magnets are great 'cos you can basically use them anywhere. Want to switch out Bolt Pistols to Plasmas? There's a magnet for that. At the other end, do you want to switch out weapons for Imperial Knights? There's also a magnet for that.
Lovely green colour you got going on, and will look forward to Bert and Ernie being done!

Thank you, I am priming and basing the rest of my marines tomorrow. So I'll get some group photos of everything as well. Ordered another Calth boxset which may be here tomorrow or on Friday as well. It will be a mad rush to have them built by Wednesday as I have a 2000 point game against the Alpha Legion. Automatically Appended Next Post: That feeling when you find all the resin crack. Forgot how much I love the detail on forge world faces. Emperors children head with no helmet has a crazy amount of detail on it. May use it for my preator or a centurion at some point.

Honestly depends how much effort you want to put into them. I know some people don't really care much about the basing, but others count it as part of the model. What do you usually do for bases?

I usually just put that agrellan earth paint on it, give it a wash of agrax then a dry brush of baneblade brown, then may add some of the little grass tuft things.

That sounds fine, as long as it's done is the main thing. I like to combo a rock with the tuft of grass right next to it/underneath it as it looks quite natural. The thing that I do is instead of doing a brown drybrush, is to do a cream colour drybrush such as tyrant skull onto the brown texture paint. It is surprisingly effective, and doesn't stand out as much as you would think.

Having based 70+ imperial guard models in the past using the 'traditional' method, I am now fully a convert of sculpted, pre-molded bases.
The amount of time it saves me to just paint a pre-molded base versus having to glue ballast/rocks/other stuff down, wait for it to dry, and then paint said base is reason enough.
An example of my Deathwatch Librarian with a molded base:
And one of my recent Blood Angels Death Company, using one of the Rusty Nickel bases I posted the link to above:
Not to derail the thread, just offering an alternative to the 'traditional' basing options out there.
That said, I do look forward to seeing more green on Bert & Ernie. I do like the black edging/detailing too, though personally I really do like the bronze/gold look contrasting with that green shade you've accomplished. However, I will freely admit that being a Blood Angel, I do tend to prefer gold or bronze shades. Just saying.
Take it easy for now.
