After a few months, more money spent than the wife allows ( ), and lots of eye strains, I am almost done! Well for now....

These are first models I have ever painted in my life. Even the few car models I put together when I kid were left unpainted. So this is new to me.

These are models from the DV set converted into my own chapter. Also a few other models that I purchased, such as scouts, etc. . Sadly, I have not yet made custom emblem yet, so they are bare and not based. I need a simple base idea that goes with the colors.

BUT...for now they are 95% done. The SM army that came in the DV set were stripped of the DA icons, and some had to have parts added to cover up. I finished the Term Captain, but have no photos. I am currently working on a Dreadnaught and Razorback. Ill post when I am done.

I would like some CC, as I would like to improve going forward. Honest, but not too rough please. Dont want to get discouraged lol.

Well I'll be the first to say something. For your first painted models, they look very good. Some nice edge highlights, and I like the contrast of the orange and black.

What are you calling them? What are you looking to make as the chapter symbol?

You mentioned basing, and something simple to go with the color. Since you already spent more then you wanted, can easily get rocks, sand, etc from your yard, or cheap at a local Menards or Home Depot. Something else you can use, but easier to do when you haven't glued them to the base, is get you some cork board, about five bucks gets you a good sized roll that you can base entire armies with.

Since you glued the bases on, go with some sand, a few small rocks, some larger ones for certain models and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Icon is going to be a crooked necked vulture head. The Chapter name is Vile Vultures. The icons will be white or black. Not sure which. Going to print out both and see which one looks better.

I grabbed a 40 pound bag of play sand a few weeks ago. Its sitting in my garage. What color do you suggest for the base? I was thinking grey, but then it would dull the already dark colors I think...

That is different, never seen anyone use a Vulture before. I would just call them the Vulture Chapter, unless you are wanting to go Chaos, sounds more Chaos like when you call them Vile Vultures, but just my option.

You could go white and black, use one for Elites or HQ and the other for line troops. Would both look good over the orange shoulder pads.

As for color of the sand, can go with natural sand color like a desert, since Vultures are found in desert areas. I have some grey on my bases, and have Raven Guard as my chapter. I have pictures up in my gallery if you want to see, its a lighter grey, but has black in it. I think it makes the white pop better myself.

There is more fluff behind the name, which makes more sense in the vile area

I looked at your gallery, and yeah, the grey bases do look good with dark armor. I thought it would drown it out, but it goes together well. Thanks. Also love the magnet locations pics for the Rhino. Thats my next model after my dread, and glad I came across that. Thanks!

I like them. I had an old blood angels army with a similar paint scheme.

there once was a man named jock. he drilled 23 holes in his c*ck. and with every erection he played a selection from Sabastian henry bach.

No problem Vaxx, you wouldn't think it would look good dark on dark, but it does have enough to make it standout. Since you have so much sand, I would get you a piece of scrap sprue, glue some sand on it, and paint it a few different colors and do a side by side comparison to your models, will give you a better idea then trying to picture it in your head of what will and won't look good as a base.

I forgot I put those magnet pictures up on there as well. Glad they will help you out. Just know I do use a lot of magnets, I like to make a rhino fully convertible so I can make it any version that is out, that is the nice thing about the rhino, and how they designed it.
