Hi there,

I'm a long-time lurker on this forum, and recent life changes have encouraged me to start a PLOG. At the beginning of last week, my wife went back to work. I'm now looking after our 9-month-old son for the next 3 months. During the first 9 months of his life, I didn't really get much time to do much of anything hobby-related beyond painting a few minis and playing two games of infinity. Now that I'm at home during the day, I'm hoping to be able to put some time into painting and modeling, and hopefully playing more often. My game of choice at the moment is Infinity, and I'm currently collecting two factions: Nomads (Vanilla and Corregidor and some day Tunguska and maybe Bakunin) and Ariadna (Vanilla and Scots and some day Kazaks), but you'll probably also see some Deadzone scenery, and maybe some minis. I really hope that the comments and feedback from the community motivates me to keep painting and building. My current goal is to paint a Nomads force ready for a tournament in January.

Last week I decided to try my hand at making some bases for the Nomads. I've been managing to average between about 2 hours a day. I made about 30, 25mm and 3, 55mm. The idea is that they're the interior of a ship or a building. I've also been working on painting up some Holo-ads. Below are some pics of progress to date. I think I'll have to touch up some of the orange in the larger holo-ad. Comments and feedback appreciated.

Also, for those of you who know about airbrushes--I've found that quite often when spraying on to a flat surface the paint gets blown around and pools in places, which looks terrible. Does anyone know why this might be? I'm running it at around 20 psi but I've not much experience using one or thinning paints.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Interesting! Would like to see them hol ads on a table - would they be bright enough to stand out?

Good luck in Your life and art. I am sorry that I can't help You with that airbrushing problem - I am less than a novice with that thing...

Painting progress tracker:
2017: 50 of 50 planned; 2018: 80 of 60 planned; 2019: 75 of 75 planned

Cheers man,

Hopefully the ads stand out on the gaming table. The room I took photos in yesterday isn't well-lit--I promise they look brighter in real life! --so I'll try to remedy the lighting next time I take photos. And learn how to photograph miniatures too!

I'm playing a game tomorrow night, and the Holo ads will be on the table. I'll try to remember to bring my camera and get some in-game shots.

Today, I've been able to base some previously painted guys. Will try to post some pics later today/tomorrow.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Managed to base some Nomads today.

Here's the group so far:

The Brigada:

and the Spektr:

Also, I got some some "supplies" delivered.

Cheers

I've had a bit of time over the past week and a half to paint some minis. I really like the new 45er sculpts--Wallace looks quite dated beside them. I'm batch-painting them, rather than doing them one after the other as I don't know if I could finish them all otherwise.

There photos are still WIP-- Hopefully, I can finish them up over the next week. Here's the group altogether:

And some close ups:

Unfortunately, the Highlander with sword took a bit of damage on the way to or from gaming. I'll have to strip the the sword and put on a new basecoat.

I've also been doing a bit of work on an Interventor--I tried a three-tone undercoat and then black-washing over the top. I'm not really sold on the result yet, so I will probably start highlighting the black next. Here's her currently:

She's such a lovely sculpt, so I really hope I can do her justice.

Cheers

Dave

After not really making a lot of progress on painting minis over the last 2 weeks, I switched gear and decided to build some terrain. The local hobby supplier were having a sale on a whole range of stuff, including 4Ground. I've always liked the look of it, and its a bonus not having to paint. But the prices are quite expensive here in NZ so I hadn't got any. Until the start of this week.

Here's what I've managed to assemble so far:

First up, a waste skip and some barriers

A waste bin and more barriers

I've got one more of the bins to build

And a small room--I've got a bigger building to build which this will sit on top of.

And all together:

I really like the kits. Lots of great details, and they come with lots of decals. I haven't yet put any of the decals on the sip or the bins but I will when time allows. For the most part they were straightforward to put together, although the buildings are much more demanding they were easier than first looked.

Also did some more painting last week on the 45ers--finished off the kilts and the did all the brown leather, and went back over the skin. They're looking a lot better. Next up will be the weapons and then the hair--so much hair--and basing. I'll take some more photos of them soon if you're keen.

Gaming-wise, I managed to take one photo of last week's game: my hidden deployed Spektr with assult hacking device:

I would've taken more photos but, unfortunately for me and my opponent I had to call the game literally following the first part of the first order--my opponent had moved forward his aragato bike when I got "the call" and had to pack and go home to an upset wife and baby!

One of these days I'll get a game in!

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment.

Cheers

Dave

Nice collection of minis to build, and the terrain looks nice. My favorite outlet has most of the terrain for Infinity at decently low prices. I hope there is such a miniature outlet near you.

Cheers Shas. Will hopefully have some more minis to show shortly, once the 45ers are done. One of the curses of living in a small country at the end of the world is access to minis at decent prices. I don't really get into GW stuff anymore (waiting on the forthcoming Necromunda) but you can get I think the whole range here, though it's pricey. Infinity and Infinity terrain is harder to buy at decent prices, and you can't always get access to the whole range unless you want to buy from overseas and either pay for shipping or place a large order to take advantage of free shipping, which is nice but not something that I can do regularly. Still, the good thing is that the ranges seem to be expanding slowly, and there's at least one terrain company in NZ that makes suitable terrain.

Yeah, I suppose those shipping prices are the killer there, But you have a plan, and it takes advantage of the way Infinity expands the ranges. Morats have been re-sculpting like bunnies! I have more minis that showed up today. soon to be loaded when I can. Meanwhile, keep up the good work and don't sweat it, just means you can have the time to do it better!

Hey Shas, thanks for the encouragement, man. I look forward to seeing even more Morats in the near future.

I've now finished the four 45ers and Wallace. I wanted to do a decent job on these miniatures, but I've found it hard to do with limited painting opportunities--so I kinda rushed them towards the end, but I'm happy with the result. Apart from the tartan, the 45ers were great to paint. Wallace, being an old sculpt was trickier. I really hope CB resculpt him in the forthcoming round of CHA resculpts (starting next year, I think). Because the game is set in a cyberpunk world I figured I should go crazy with their hair, so opted for outrageous glamrock tones. Anyway, here they are:

First up, is not Liam Neeson in Rob Roy, wielding a chainrifle:

And next up is a guy with boarding shotgun--I think he was based off of the Irish character Stephen in Braveheart. I only got one good photo of him. I blame his hair.

Here's not Sean Connery in Highlander, with a rifle:

And not Christopher Lambert as the Highlander, wielding a massive broadsword:

And finally, William Wallace

Comments and feedback welcomed.

Cheers

Dave

So, they went with "familiar faces" in their scottish looking Ariadne troops eh? Not a surpise considerng Van Zant in the line up. Looking good, the hardest part is faces and kilt patterns.

Pretty cool Braveheart theme.

Great progress here! Colourful Scots with anime hairdos look surprisingly sane.

Thanks Shas and Wirecat. I have to admit that the hair was a bit of "oh why not?" Moment. It's come off pretty well.

Haven't been up to much this past week as in-laws and real life have got in the way of progress. I did get started on the second of the 4Ground buildings and the interventor last week so should hopefully get a chance to do something with them tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi all,

Here's the female interventor. I was thinking that she was finished, but looking at the photos I think I need to do some work on her eyes and apply some lipstick/make up. If anyone has any suggestions as to colours and application, i'm all ears. I also need to fix up the base. Here are photos:

Also, I've been busy prepping minis for undercoating:

Intruders, Bandit, and Wildcat

Wildcat link team

Alguaciles and Hellcat

I don't know when I'll get to these minis, as there's already a longish queue. One day.

Cheers for reading,

Dave

Nice work Davetron. One wonders why there was no Mel Gibson Caledonian... or maybe not, eh.

Thanks Red,

Could CB signal Mel's redemption in the eyes of society with a new Wallace sculpt?

Naw. I think Mel spent too much time in/on that Island Continent to your North. Rotted his brain but good. It happens alot there, or so I'm told. Brain damage caused by boxing with kangaroos, or drinking beer out of an oilcan. (Foster's Lager)

Or maybe his time in Hollywood did it. Who knows. I doubt that we'll see anything new for Caledonia anytime soon. CB is a bit too enamored of the USAriadna at the moment.

Happy New Year to everyone,

Hopefully, everyone has had a great Christmas and New Years. I sure did, and I even got some painting/modelling in.

This is a bigger update, showing what I've been up to since mid-December--and I have been busy. First up here's the finished Interventor and two of her pals:

I also started painting the Male Interventor. Here's a WIP shot of progress to date - I've nearly finished the black layer:

I decided to wait until he's finished to paint the rims of the bases.

I got a bit distracted with Christmas. I got a copy of Deadzone Nexus Psi supplement and this:

And then a few days after Christmas I got pretty much a whole afternoon downstairs hobbying--a very rare event these days. I broke out my airbrush for the first time in ages and started experimenting on some Corregidor. I read a good tip on how to mix the paint to a good consistency, and I'm quite pleased with this first attempt to layer red, but will need to go back and give these a good wash before moving on to the next colours. Here they are in the 4Ground building I finished putting together yesterday, along with some buddies who have just started the process:

Also, inspired by getting more Deadzone stuff, I've been assembling some pathfinders--I think I want to paint them like the alternate ISS scheme -- black with turquoise trim. Will eventually get to them after the corregidor guys. And as you can see in the previous photo, I've started painting up some battlezones. Here are more photos:

So a little bit of everything here. I hope you like it. Cheers for reading,

Dave
