I don't really post my WWII stuff here so much, but this'd maybe perk the interest of Guard players a bit.

In my own alt-history setting (mostly A Kill in the Morning, just with a different *ahem* ending) the war in Europe ended after Dunkirk and Churchill's death in an "air raid". The Soviet Union continued fighting the Axis alone until the war stalemates in a nuclear Cold War (begun by the British; having signed a peace treaty with Germany, setting off a nuke off Germany's coast as a deterrent to the Reich's advance into a British controlled Israel at the end of the 40s). I have a Heer army set during the late 40s out on the Eastern Front. Landed with a mix of floundering hastily upgraded older kit and the odd experimental vehicle (dumped on them after newer wonder weapons caught high command's attention), facing a war of attrition against the Soviet's own advancing tech (something I'm slowly covering as well, but sourcing kits to convert isn't as easy for them unfortunately).

The Jagdtiger II was developed with the intent of creating a more specialised "sniper" tank for warfare on the open Russian steppe. Whilst carrying a gun capable of scoring a kill against anything the Soviets were able to field in number at the time, it was catered towards destroying the latest in Heavy Tank design, before it could engage any German tank units. In reality, whilst capable in its intended role, little had been done to resolve the inherent flaws of the KonigsTiger's design. The increased weight of the extended super structure (implemented to provide better protection for the Tiger II's relatively poorly armoured engine deck) compounded the strain on the torsion bars and under powered engine. Like its predecessors most were lost to mechanical issues than combat losses. Something eventually resolved by the Jagd E-50/75 designs a few years later.

Anyhow...

Its mostly plasticard and spare bits and bobs mounted on top of a set of Warlord Games Tiger II tracks with a barrel from the same kit. The muzzle break - in the style of the E-100 Lowe (which shared the same gun as the Jagdtiger and Maus) - is from a Dust Axis Heavy Walker kit and the infrared sights are by Heer46 (who makes a load of other paper panzer stuff ~ more of which is in my gallery). Everything there's either based on an existing concept, or something which was prototyped (the overall look profile is taken from a Jagdpanther with a Stalingrad period StuG's extended super structure. Infrared had just entered service as the war ended. I left off the rudimentary ATGM as that'd been overkill...). The amount of wear's supposed to be evident, the vehicle stagnating in the pool of an overtaxed and morally low Heer unit stationed on some far off frontier. If they only knew where the war would be going in a few years...

I'll maybe post more of this stuff if there's interest, but being that this is a kind of 40K orientated forum my threads tend to be drowned amongst all the other stuff most of the time. Meh, I'll maybe keep it to one thing at a time instead of my usual blog threads here I suppose.

I like it, i like the worn and ragged look and i think the painting is very well done; i didn't think it was that cobbled together when i saw the finished model up at the top.

I'd love to see more historical and alternate history stuff here myself!

realism is a lie

Well I have a Panther II (t) sitting being painted right now which should turn up in a few days. My painting's not really up to scratch with what you typically see on this board, but well if I slap enough brown ink on a model people tend to err towards the "so bad its good" camp.
